An excellent resource for those who are new in the field of research. To me what makes this book unique is the way the authors have organized the content of this book. It is well structured and easy to understand.

His is a very detailed book, however not overly 'interesting' for a student looking to improve their research skills. It is however very good for teachers and uni students who are looking at improving their research skills and/or teaching others. The information is rather technical and American based, though the chapters are clearly outlined so if you want to look up one type of research method you can. Much of the content in this book was unnecessary fluff, and even the authors know that; they take care to highlight the only portions that you actually need to read. Additionally, the LearnSmart text was extremely cumbersome to use and repeatedly logged me out due to inactivity, even when I had been active during my entire session. When it would log me out, it would also return me to points that I had completed hours ago, as well, but you can't skip through to specific pages - you have to click Much of the content in this book was unnecessary fluff, and even the authors know that; they take care to highlight the only portions that you actually need to read. Definitely would not recommend.

Concise and accessible, even when deriving the formula for standard deviations (“it looks complicated, but it’s not,” the text reassures you). Illustrations are a bit lame and need an update (or to be replaced with less lame photos). I had one of the co-authors, Hyun, as my instructor, and she was excellent. I'm not sure which parts she contributed, but I wouldn't be surprised if the book owes a lot of its crisp lucidity to her. Clearly written and informative, this text provides an overview of research methods--quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods--used by academics and practitioners. I noticed some factual errors in the section about literature searches, but recommend it overall.

Easy to read and understand, but a little dry, as are most research books...

This was the text book used for my Intro to Research and Stats class. It's a good introduction to educational research - nothing outstanding, but a solid book. Very readable textbook, easy to understand as a basic introduction to the concepts of research. Was a helpful resource during the class and may begin again if I ever do another research paper!

Fraenkel and Wallen go even further here to help design the best research and how we can use the web to our advantage.

I appreciated the overview, but it was a bit too repetitive and the images were too simplistic.
