Really great book about Freddie Mercury and Queen and his life. I thought it really encompassed a lot about his life and the band! Super fun and interesting book.

A book about Freddie can never be bad. His personality is inspiring enough to keep me high while reading it. Being big biography reader though, I find the style of the author a bit superficial. Many facts are mentioned at some points, important information is lacking at others. For example I found more information about the song "The Show Must Go On" in Wikipedia than in the biography. Anyway, it was a great beginning-of-the-year reading inspiring me to keep searching my ways for expressing crea A book about Freddie can never be bad. was okay, easy to read, the order of the narrative made sense. as freddie mercury is my favourite artist, then to me it was very interesting, but on the other hand i knew already basically all the details and stuff. nothing new there, but just the same situations from the other points of view.

Pissed me off that the author was dismissive of Freddie’s attraction to both men and women. Acted as if she knew his sexuality better than he did. She also seemed to shoehorn mentions of his queerness into other unrelated sections. Overall seemed kind of ignorant and uninformed. Some anecdotes and stories about Freddie’s life were interesting to read and obviously I love the man so learning new things about him is always fun, I just felt in many ways the author came off as disrespectful to him a Pissed me off that the author was dismissive of Freddie’s attraction to both men and women. The amount of homophobia in this book is appalling. She constantly uses his sexuality and "campness" as a source of humor in the book and no other aspects of his personality are ever explored. At one point she calls Mercury a criminal based on an incorrect accusation of him continuing to be promiscuous and having unprotected sex after his aids diagnosis (his partner's book and other biographies on him state the opposite) . The music of Queen is barely analyzed and neither are any of his friendships/relationships except for the ones with Mary Austin and Barbara Valentin. Throughout the book I got the impression that she is either mocking him or looking down on him because of his sexuality while his accomplishments are brushed under the rug. Most of Queen's successful tours/concerts are barely mentioned (except for her criticizing what went on backstage). Even Live Aid was dulled down into one boring paragraph. (You'll get a better understanding of FM and Queen by reading "Somebody to Love" by Matt Richards.)

3.5 stars I love how detailed it was but I hated how repetitive it is about his sexuality. I mean like come on, did everyone that was interviewed need to point out how gay was he lol. They keep back and forth about 'at first he doesn't look gay to me' and I was like fed up. I know how shocked those baby boomers to hear a gay man walks among them. I also not that fond too much so I prefer to stay away or leave the sexuality of that person be. As far as I knew, this book is like a revision to me. I can see how ambitious Freddie from the beginning till the end. How he loved music so much even at the end of his life he still wanted to sing. Even thought there were some story side of the other members but as for the big fan of Queen which is me, this is insufficient. I want more of Deacon, May and Taylor stories but obviously this is Freddie's bio not Queen. Anyway, yeah I still enjoyed.

A lot of people might not have read this book because they watched the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, but that movie does not have the most accurate info being that it is supposed to be an entertaining film. This book is an extremely good alternative to the movie especially if you want to know more info about his life and the bands life as well. Some of the info in the book is about the band-mates not only Freddie, which is really nice. Mercury's life was very interesting indeed. This biography was stupendous. I loved it so much, telling of the life the iconic rock star Freddie Murcury and the band Queen. One of my favorite rock bands. This book was well written & research by Laura Jackson. This is the first work of hers that I've read. I enjoyed it and would recommend any Queen or Freddie Mercury fans out there to read it. I give it two thumbs up & top 5 stars. This biography was stupendous. I loved it so much, telling of the life the iconic rock star Freddie Murcury and the band Queen. One of my favorite rock bands. Freddie Mercury: The Biography I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Freddie's life. I vaguely remember the controversy regarding his life and death. Learning about what was really happening in those years answered so many questions. Freddie was truly an amazing singer and performer and after reading this book, it makes him even more amazing in my eyes. Reads more like a Wiki page than an anecdotal, emotional biography, but of course this can be expected from the biography of a dead man. His anecdotes are much harder to come by. Nevertheless, a thorough and interesting insight into the life of Mercury that I am glad I read.

I enjoyed this telling of Freddie Mercury's story. The challenge for any writer in telling this tale is that Freddie was such a private person that it's hard to get a grasp of who he really was. As a fan I am reading several bios about him in order to get a better understanding of who he was. This volume however was well written and allowed for a good pace. I was just at a trombone concert where they played Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Freddy Mercury was so talented and hw always put on a blockbuster show, and his songs are still used in movies today. It is too he was careless with his life habits and left us early.

Like her Queen book: if you can't even get the basics right, your details are moot. Like her Queen book: if you can't even get the basics right, your details are moot.
