First published in 1914, The Great Gold Rush A Tale of the Klondike brings into focus the hardships of the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 1890's. The story focuses on a group of four friends who make their way to Dawson Creek, and work hard at staking their claims, only to find the local thugs in high positions are able to negate their rights. Quite interesting and enlightening. I listened to this as a free download from LibriVox.org. Hard excellent reading on a very interesting subject of man and greed and a country that is hard to deal with elements.
Jo-Ann Murphy –
This book was not easy reading. Life was rough in that environment and the animal abuse was hard to read, as were the hardships of the people. Graft and corruption were as evident then as they are today making the rich richer and the poor poorer. It was an interesting story of thee times.
Phil Clymer –
Good tale with lots of action.
Isaac –
Good book but lacks a descriptive depth. May have been written for a younger reader. Late elementary or middle school age.
