Although the sex in their marriage has been passionate and satisfying, Jess finds herself fantasizing about acting out the scenes in her romance books with her husband Alex. Sound familiar? I just loved this whole idea. Anyhoo, she's too embarrassed tell Alex, and although she's become more aggressive during sex, Jess pulls away from Alex afterwards and his mind starts to wander. He loves this new side of Jess, but he wonders why she avoids him after they are intimate. Is guilt playing into her actions? Jess confesses about her fantasies and lo and behold, Alex is on board 100%...what man wouldn't be?! The story goes from there... It was steamy and fun, and most of all, I really enjoyed watching this couple explore their sexual limits and reinforce their love for one another!

This story was sexy and sweet. Married for fifteen years, Jessica and Alex are comfortable with their lives, but it is not terribly exciting. This was not some fly by night romance. The couple has an almost perfect life; all it is missing is some excitement. The author did a good job getting both Jessica's and Alex's emotions into the story as they began to communicate inside the bedroom and began to really learn what the other wanted and needed.

I devoured FORBIDDEN FANTASIES and loved it so much, mostly because Jess and Alex were such great characters. I haven't read many romances with already married couples so this was a breath of fresh air for me. Jess and Alex have been together for 15 years and they have a great sex life but it's been fairly vanilla. Jess's upbringing has strongly affected how she views sexual desires so when an erotic romance book starts to give her ideas she's afraid to express those fantasies to her husband. I really enjoyed reading about Jess's self discovery. She has a lot of conflicted feelings over what she wants but once Alex understands what's going on he's completely on board for whatever Jess is looking for. Alex was downright dreamy and I loved his support of Jess and his willingness to try some new things, in fact he's had some of his own fantasies he wants to try. To help them explore, Alex finds a secret B&B that specializes in couples with kinkier tastes. Both Alex and Jess were just really genuine characters that you can't help but fall in love with. I loved the concept of the B&B and can't wait to read more in the series.

My Review: OMG, I cannot tell you just how much I loved this book. It was fantastic and so freaking hot! OMG! In this book, Jess has discovered the world of erotic romances. The problem is, that she feels guilty about the fantasies...like she is somehow betraying her husband. Her husband knows that something is wrong. The sex has been phenomenal, but for some reason Jess is pulling back emotionally and he is worried. They've always had a really strong marriage and both of these people are completely in love with each other. They are both terrified that is falling apart. While the sex is better than it has ever been, they are growing apart emotionally. Jessica is afraid to confide her fantasies. She thinks that Alex will become disgusted. Alex, for his part, is starting to think that she is having an affair. This is an erotica novel, but the realistic side of the uncomfortable issues that the fantasies bring up was so well-done. This book is just brilliantly written! And did I mention it was HOT?!? OMG...so freaking hot! The scene with the hairband...YOWZA!!! As someone who's been married for 20 years, had an upbringing much like Jessica's, and has discovered erotica, I wanted to stand up and applaud how well-written this book is. It is so spot-on without being heavy or depressing. It's incredibly hot and sexy while at the same time showing some real intricacies of long-term marriage. Marketing tip for Carina...you need to print gift editions of this book! I have been known to leave my erotica books for my husband to find. I would LOVE to give him a copy of this book. I think that we'd BOTH ENJOY IT. ;o) I highly recommend this one!

I really enjoyed this debut novella. It's always a treat when an author puts just enough realism into a story for you to be completely pulled into the story, and I think that's true for Forbidden Fantasies. Some reviewers have criticized the story, saying that all these issues the main couple are having could easily be solved with a frank conversation. True, and it was all resolved by the end of the story, but considering the heroine's controlled/puritan upbringing and the worry that her husband I really enjoyed this debut novella. Some reviewers have criticized the story, saying that all these issues the main couple are having could easily be solved with a frank conversation. True, and it was all resolved by the end of the story, but considering the heroine's controlled/puritan upbringing and the worry that her husband might not approve of her new found sexual needs, I thought it worked just fine. Partly because I could see how insecure the heroine was about revealing this new side of herself, and partly because it was all dealt with eventually. I thought the sex scenes were hot yet tender, especially near the end of the book when they both began exploring the kinkier side of her fantasies. I loved that the hero was willing to fulfill his wife's sexual needs and desires, and didn't make her feel ashamed for wanting something very different from what he'd been used to in bed. Their love and commitment to each other came through very clearly, and it was nice to see a married couple opening up to each other and adding some spice to their lives. I'm looking forward to more books by Ms. Griffin.

This one was a DNF for me. I tried. I really tried. But I had major problems with a couple of things. Jess and Alex have been married for over fifteen years. Suddenly she is buying as many of these types of books as she can and secretly fantasizing about what happens in each. Her sex life with her husband improves greatly but as soon as he pulls out, she is so full of guilt over her fantasies and her books (that she keeps hidden from him) that she turns away from her husband and distances herself from him. I stopped reading shortly after she told Alex what her problem was and why she has been so distant. Here are my problems with the story and why it seemed so unbelievable: Fifteen years of marriage. Fifteen. The relationship is described as almost perfect in every other regard than Jess's shyness in the bedroom. What did I see? Total lack of communication. Did I mention they have been married for over fifteen years? While the book explains why Jess is so shy about talking to Alex, I still cannot get beyond the fact that they have a 'perfect' marriage otherwise. If so, I would guess that they communicate on other issues but not in the bedroom? I'm sorry but I couldn't get beyond that nor could I get beyond the fact that someone (after fifteen years of marriage and having sex) would feel so guilty about fantasizing during sex. I know that there is a chance that the story may have improved had I continued but the other stuff would have overridden that. I'm sure this would be a great story for others but it simply was not for me.

This is the debut book of brand new author Jodie Griffin. I found Jodie on twitter, my social media website of choice these days. I decided to check out her website and her back cover blurb for this book and decided i wanted to read her book. First of all you don't often read erotica type books where the couple are married. That's the first things that intrigued me and then there was the whole discussion of the erotica books the heroine is reading that gives her idea about her changing sex life. This is a short read but fabulously written. In a lot of ways i could see it happening in real life. There some really emotional stuff but you can feel the love between Alex and Jessica. Once Alex finds out what's really going on with his wife he makes her fantasies come true in a realistic way. There are these super hot sex scenes made hotter because it's a married couple ( by 15 years) and there's a bond there but also because they talk it out as they go. My review is 4.21 stars. This book is full of romantic, sexy & sweet story. For every debut author, the first book is very close and important aspect of Writing Life. I loved this one. The characters, the story is catchy and awesome. The issues mentioned in the story faced by the couple is USP of the book, according to me. This book is of different kind for this genre, having a different and interesting story.

Why I read it: I picked this new release from Carina Press up at NetGalley and the blurb looked interesting. I do love books featuring established couples dealing with a conflict. Her handsome husband turns her on, but missionary style once or twice a week? It just can't compare to the hot new world she discovers in the pages of erotic romances. Her fantasies fuel the fire of her desire, adding a new spark to her and Alex's lovemaking. But Jess is afraid to tell her husband what she really wants in bed—and her secrets start coming between them. State trooper Alex Meyers is a master at uncovering the truth—except when it comes to his sweet, shy wife. She's clearly keeping something from him. An affair? She wants out? When he finally confronts Jess, he's shocked to learn she wants to turn her forbidden fantasies into nightly realities. But when he takes her to a unique B and B—Bondage and Breakfast—catering to couples and multiples, Alex is about to find out just how far he'll go. What worked for me (and what didn't): This is a little gem of a book. It's short, just under 85 pages, but Ms. Griffin managed to tell a complete story in that space, in a way that I found very engaging. I've often thought it is harder to write short than long (this from a person who can't shut up!). Some of the things that make it easier to tell a whole story in that time is to have an established couple (check) and to keep the story relatively simple (ie, not multiple conflicts/storylines) (check again). Sometimes, a story like that can be boring however. This one was not. Not at all. The first paragraph was a bit clunky in that it gave the impression that Jessica and Alex had had a fight - but actually, the problem was more that they had NOT had a fight (or a discussion) about the sexual fantasies Jessica wanted to explore. She felt horny and guilty but embarrassed and unable to talk to Alex about it for fear he would think she was "dirty" and that it might threaten the otherwise happy status quo of their 15 year marriage. She has too much invested to rock the boat. Alex, for his part, has been trying to get Jessica to talk to him - he's noticed how much more interested in sex Jessica is (and he's pretty happy about that) but she is withdrawing from him emotionally after sex and this has him very concerned. However, I'm pleased to say that once that first paragraph or 2 was done, the book definitely picked up and the story hit its stride. It's simple, it doesn't try to be more than it is and it is definitely sexy. Unlike another book I read recently which was full of sex scenes which appeared to be there only to titillate, in this book, the sex scenes had a purpose. The demonstrated the connection between the couple and served to gradually resolve the "conflict" of the book - whether Alex could "cope" with Jessica's newly discovered sexual fantasies. The sex scenes were plentiful and well written. Oh, there were a couple of things that I raised my eyebrows about in that they didn't altogether fit with Jessica's previous reticence in the sexual arena and her reluctance to talk to Alex about it but the rest of it was so good I was happy enough to go along for the ride. I'm not usually a fan of the not talking type story, but it made sense in the context of this book. For a start, normal life meant that sex wasn't on this couple's mind 24/7 - Alex is a cop and he's very busy and often gets called out at all hours on cases etc. Plus, Alex and Jess have 2 children which keeps them busy anyway. The other thing is that Jess is presented as having been very sexually inexperienced and raised in a puritanical household - it made sense to me that she would need some time to sort out what she wanted in her own head before broaching it with her husband. And, finally, the book starts with Jessica finally being ready to talk to Alex about it so I didn't have to suffer through the "will I/won't I" part and I got almost straight to the "let's deal with it" part (which is always more interesting). If you like a hot little m/f read - I think you might like this one. What else? I believe Forbidden Fantasies is the author's debut release. I'm looking forward to reading more from her. Grade: B+

Most of the time we get books about couples meeting and falling in love but it’s not often that we actually get a story about what happens after the happily ever after, so when I saw that this novella was about a married couple I couldn’t wait to read it. Jessica has been happily married to Alex for over 15 years. They have two kids and their relationship is just plain great. But one day Jessica discovers an erotic romance and things change. She comes from a very conservative background so things like BDSM and fantasies are unfamiliar to her, what surprises her is that not only does she enjoy the book a lot but also starts fantasizing about doing the things she reads. As consequence their sex life improves because she feels invigorated, but she also feels guilty about it because having those fantasies, some of them involving threesomes and people watching, feel like cheating to her. So she keeps quiet, has great sex and feels guilty afterwards. Alex, on the other hand, becomes more and more aware of his wife’s estrange behavior. She’s unstoppable in bed but then withdraws, he keeps asking her what’s wrong but she doesn’t say anything, so he begins to fear that she is cheating on him. But when he finally confronts her, he realizes that this may open new possibilities for their relationship. And that’s when things get interesting. This novella basically has two parts. The first one where Jessica worries about the fantasies and Alex worries about the cheating, and the second one where she comes clean and they take it from there. I was a bit annoyed by Jessica’s insecurities and her unwillingness to trust Alex. They had been married for all those years and at that point she should have known that communication was key. Another thing that bothered me was the lack of trust, she was shy and sheltered but fifteen years is a long time to overcome that and to learn to trust your partner. However, this was pretty much the only thing that I found mildly annoying, the rest I thoroughly enjoyed. Alex was a sweetheart and his reaction to Jessica’s confession made me fall for him. Jessica was likeable, insecurities and all, and they were a nice couple with lots of chemistry. My favorite part was to have an established couple as the main characters. I wish romance had more couples like this one because it allows us to explore different types of conflicts. It is an erotic novel so there’s hot sex, nothing over the top and all very vanilla, but it fit the sweet overtones of the story. I liked the fact that the sex came later in the story which gave me time to get to know the characters first. Forbidden Fantasies is a sexy and cute novella, perfect to read in one sitting. It has a lovely romance, a few steamy sex scenes and two likeable main characters. Recommended to fans of contemporary romance, and to people who might be testing the waters of erotic romance, this was mild compared to other erotic romances so I think it’s a good place to start. I look forward to reading more by Ms. Griffin. Grade: 3.5 Source: we received an e-ARC of the book through NetGalley for review purposes.

Most are trashy and rather distasteful. ‘Forbidden Fantasies’ by Jodie Griffin is not just your ordinary erotic read. No, not when there’s many issues in a marriage that has been brought up in her book. Definitely not ‘wham-bang and bye bye’ kind of book. While there’s so many erotic and kinky things were written in this book, I found that I was attracted to the message the author is trying to deliver more than the sensual scenes. She touched quite a lot of things in this book, mainly open communication between spouses and fidelity, and bringing one’s marriage into a much more exciting heights. How many of us married couples found our sex lives are rather predictable after being married for years to each other? How many of us husband and wives has been really open with each other in regards to sex? And how many of us has been really honest with each other about what we want, what we need, and what we would like to try with each other in bed? I could completely relate to the heroine. Sometimes sex is quite a touchy subject and we wives are not always open and honest with our husband when it comes to the things we wanted to do in between the sheet. Most of us find it embarrassing to discuss such things with our husbands(or wives) in fear of being rejected, etc, and we could see such thing clearly through the heroine of this story, Jessica. Many of us are afraid to be open with our spouses when it comes to sex. Most of us wants to bring our marriage to another height where we could be fully open with our spouses but could not bring ourselves to do it, and I suppose, picking up this book gives me some clue on how to start making my own marriage far more exciting than it’s already is. ‘Forbidden Fantasies’ is a dream come true for people like me…who have been married for quite some time and finds my sex life is rather mundane and predictable. Not only this book encourages couples to be more honest with their feelings with each other, but it’s pretty descriptive too. A gem, I must say. This is the first erotica that I’ve read twice… okay, okay… I’ve read it more than twice. I’ve read it three times in one sitting. It is mesmerizing, beautiful, sensual and very inspiring. Thumbs up to the author for such a wonderful work. And for the first time in my life, I’ll give an erotica a gleaming 5 stars for being such a tasteful and inspiring read. Bravo, Ms. Griffin. I received an ARC of this book from Carina Press via Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review for this book.

When the couple is from a long-term relationship and learning to love each other in new ways, well I just love it all the more. This debut novella from Griffin falls under both these categories: a sweet and sexy short. Jessica is scared to confide in her husband her new secret passion: reading erotic romance books. She hides the smutty books under her bed, and dreams of what she and Alex could do together if they used her books as guidelines. But Jessica is scared to admit it, and her inability to talk to him is starting to create problems between them. Alex knows something is wrong with his wife, but doesn’t know what. When she admits she has been reading sexy books, Alex is relieved she just wants to spice things up. One weekend when their kids are away, Alex takes a lesson from her books and secretly plans a weekend getaway for just the two of them – fulfilling all his wife’s new sexual needs. I thought this book was so very sweet. I loved that Griffin showed how their relationship had become comfortable and routine after fifteen years of marriage, how Jessica and Alex got relaxed in their lives, their relationship and each other. Even though they were still very much in love, it was also obvious that they weren’t putting much of an effort to spice up things between the sheets. I was a little disheartened with the way the scene played out when Jessica finally told Alex her fantasies. I understand how discussing something such as erotic fantasies can be awkward for couples who have not been together for long, but these two have been married for fifteen years. They have two children, and it almost seemed as if Jessica was still unable to communicate with her husband. While I’m sure it does happen, poor communication is something that tends to annoy me while reading, especially between couples who have weathered through life together on so many other fronts. Once they do get everything out in the open, the sexy times are very hot. Griffin does a wonderful job of showcasing how sensual and romantic kinky sex can be with a great partner. It was a great resolution for these two and sexy all around. I adored that aspect. All in all I did enjoy this short novella. While I wish Jessica would have communicated better, and that Alex wouldn’t have jumped to conclusions and made more heartache for the two of them than necessary, the book ended well. Jessica and Alex were eventually able to find new ways to turn each other on, and that was sexy in and of itself. I give Forbidden Fantasies a C+

In Forbidden Fantasies, debut author Jodie Griffin introduces a happily married couple with two children. Let’s face it, after fifteen years of marriage and two children, no matter how much you love each other, romance can sometimes become predictable. It’s not that the love and passion have worn away; it’s more – “do we have the energy or time to make it happen?” Add to that a woman who was raised in a puritanical household and you have the makings of a conventional marriage bed. In the great debate between being honest with yourself and your partner versus maintaining the status quo and not rocking the both, Ms. Griffin gives us a window into the world of Jessica Meyers. Jessica has a wonderful and loving partner in her husband Alex. They are devoted to each other, and in erotic romance it’s exciting to read about a stable and loving married couple whose love and affection for one another is so beautifully written. Jessica is a good wife and mother with a happy life but when she reads her first erotic romance and discovers a world outside of ‘vanilla sex’ her desires and sexual fantasies are ignited. Reading erotic romances inspires Jessica to want more from her relationship with Alex, but her prim and proper upbringing makes it hard for her to express those feelings to her husband. How does one go about asking their partner to experiment and try new things after fifteen years of marriage? Even when you have a solid relationship it’s hard to ask for things that are perceived as daring or even a little bit naughty. Luckily for Jessica Alex is the kind of husband we all wish for. His love and commitment to her is paramount and his willingness to give Jessica what she needs makes him undeniably attractive and sexy. Ms. Griffin hits all the right notes with Alex. His steadfast commitment to his wife, family and career are only part of who he is. He’s also a man in love and has the wisdom that comes from really knowing his lover, and that wisdom gives him the ability to give Jessica what she wants without making her wrong for wanting it. Ms. Griffin’s book is the rare combination of the erotic and the sweet. The sex between Alex and Jessica is enhanced by the romance and love between them. Watching Jessica take the first tentative steps toward communicating her forbidden fantasies and then having Alex reach out and support Jessica’s need for exploration is not only sexy but also extremely romantic. After all, what’s sexier than jumping off the cliff and exploring new territory with someone you love? Full Review at B&N.com's Heart to Heart blog http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t...

Things have grown comfortable between them in all aspects of their lives, until she discovers erotic romances at her local bookstore. Will they help spice up their love life or drive a wedge between them? Jessica has discovered a whole new world in her erotic romance books but she feels the need to hide them from her husband. She thinks there is something wrong with her because she wants to try out some of the things she has read about. She feels like she is cheating on him and is beside herself. She also feels guilty because she is imagining her husband taking charge or spanking her while they are making love. She is afraid to tell her husband what is bothering her because she is thinks he will be repulsed by what she wants/needs. Alex loves his wife very much but things have become routine between them. Things change when his wife starts to become withdrawn and secretive. While the grandparents have the kids, he sits down with Jessica to find out what has been bothering her. His worst fear is that she is having an affair, she confirms it; in her mind she is cheating on him, even if it is just through her books and fantasies. The whole conversation was endearing. I felt so bad for Alex when she told him that she was cheating, it broke his heart. It was like pulling teeth to get her to tell him what was wrong and what she wanted. She had been raised to think that what she desired was dirty and wrong; all she could think was that he would be disgusted with her. His reaction was priceless, he was shocked that his sweet wife wanted these things but he was also extremely turned on. The thing I loved about this book is that it was so easy to understand where Jessica was coming from. She was raised to believe that eroticism and BDSM were dirty and forbidden. Many women today still believe that and live their wants and desires through their erotic romance novels. They believe that they can live vicariously through their books. Many husbands would be surprised to learn that their wives or girlfriends have these secret desires. Overall I really loved Forbidden Fantasies and give it 4 1/2 Flaming Hearts.

At first, he's happy that they could add some spontaneity in their sex life. But when Jessica starts to withdraw into herself after every encounter he starts to worry that there's something more important behind this sudden change. Forbidden Fantasies was a great, romantic and erotic story of newly discovered desires in an already committed relationship. Both Alex and Jessica struggle with the desires that arise as the story progresses. I loved how the author brought Jessica's struggles to confess her new-found desires to her husband. She was both conflicted and frustrated about it, but her love for her husband and her commitment to her marriage gave her the strength she needed to talk to him. I admired Alex's determination to get to the bottom of what was troubling his wife. This showed his caring, understanding side and the love he felt for Jessica. The chemistry between Jessica and Alex was palpable from the very beginning. You could easily see how deep their connection went, regardless of their sex life. This was what initially kept me interested in the story. I wanted to see how they would work this out and how it would all come together when they started experimenting with it. Jodi Griffin did a wonderful job bringing those scenes to the page. There was hesitation and doubts, coupled with lust, fear and surrender. I loved it! Especially since along with it she brought forward their emotions and their acceptance of each other. Forbidden Fantasies is the first book in the Bondage & Breakfast series. I can't wait to meet the other couples who head to Bondage & Breakfast to experiment with their desires.

I liked the premise of Forbidden Fantasies. Jessica has recently discovered erotic romances and enjoys reading them. What she doesn't like, however, is feeling like she's doing her husband, Alex, a disservice by keeping her desires and wants a secret from him. Their sex life has gotten a little stale but Jessica wants to spice things up. She's afraid that her husband won't be open to what she wants to add to the bedroom. They both still love each other but work, kids and life in general is constantly getting in the way. I think that Jessica's fear of telling her husband what she wants is genuine. And her feelings of somehow cheating on Alex when she is fantasizing while they are making love. Even though this is a novella, I think the author does a great job of portraying the feelings of both Alex and Jessica. They both love each other and want the same things. They just have to be able to communicate their wants and desires instead of tip-toeing around the issues. I enjoyed reading Forbidden Fantasies. I'd like to see more stories centered around married couples who are trying to spice things up or who already spice it up.

What she doesn't seem to realize is that all her fears are acting as self-fulfilling prophesies. It is a compelling look at two really good people and the struggles that often rear their heads at a time when partners consider themselves well and truly beyond these kinds of upheavals. I truly enjoyed this novella--the kind of "enjoy" that is bone deep and which resonated deep in my spirit. We often read romance novels about new lovers, but this one is about lovers who have grown in their love for one another but who, like all of us, still struggle with that illusive factor called "being human on the most basic level." A really great read!

This was very different than what I originally read. While it is about Bondage and the whole lifestyle, what's different is that this isn't a couple who are finding each other, just a couple who are trying rediscover the passion that they had. Like the other two books that were part of the anthology, this story is the last one in the anthology, so if you make it past the first two stories, give this one a try. You'll be losing nothing. It's short and can be read in less than an hour.

Should I really even rate it if I was unable to finish it? I have to say the only reason I could not finish this book is because of the issues the heroine was causing all because she couldn't work up the courage to tell her husband she wanted to be dominated.
