I like reading The Wire, even though I haven't heard a lot of music they talk about. It's a bit like listening to people talking about truffles and how great it is even though I've never tasted it. But it's nice to read anyway. It would've been great if this book came with a double CD of some of the music that's written about. Oh well... There are a couple really awesome essays here, tying together a bunch of loose ends in my muscial tastes (alice coletrane, p-funk, bardo pond, velvet underground, sun ra) to a bunch of other loose ends. Very smart and connected.
