Alexander Duma is one of the greatest authours I have ever read! I love the time he represents, the way he speaks up from his books, the stories for brave, smart, absolutely devoted to a higher cause men that know how to talk elegantly.

What great adventures of intrigue, valour, duty, friendship at the backdrop of the most illustrious historical events in France in 17th century. Duma’s humour is sublime and heroes characters remain true throughout this epic gallop across 35 years of adventure and history. Classic for a reason.

Classic for good reason... There are tales which are timeless; and although the manners and values of mainstream society seem to deteriorate, true men still hold the bonds of friendship and the grace of chivalry sacred. For such men, books like these were written.
Linda –
great book
Rosann –
Despite occasional slow-going, this book finishes strong; sad, moving, and powerful.

As the years have gone on, Dumas has been a mission of mine to work through. The D’Artagnan Romances were a true joy and pleasure to read. Dumas wrote prolifically about the French Royal Family from the 1400’s to the 1800’s. Predominantly using the same format as we have here. Yet, there is something about these works that everything just fits and in time, if you read a lot more of Dumas, you can see why.
Greg Santos –
Good story and character development. Just as in Count of Monte Cristo do not take time off while reading as the story can be tough to pick back up and jump back in. Just the beginning of the Three Musketeer Collection.

Thanks to the Gutenberg Project, I have over the past several weeks read the complete series https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2681/.... It was fun, especially "Twenty Years After" and "The Man in the Iron Mask." Long stretches quite drag, however. A beautiful version that captures the comradeship and the romance at the center of Dumas' lovely tale. A beautiful version that captures the comradeship and the romance at the center of Dumas' lovely tale.

This series is amazing. It is very long, but worth the read. It is pretty brutal and filled with action and adventure, political intrigue, romance and real friendship.

Not the right book I downloaded this book to read a play by Shakespeare and the contents are actually the collected works of Dumas.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I used to cherish the movies based on Alexandre Dumas' novels, and finally got the chance to read them. "The Three Musketeers" primarily focuses on the adventures of a noble young man from Gascony, D'Artagnan. D'Artagnan comes from a poor background, but his father has managed to get him an interview with a Monsieur de Treville, captain of the King's Musketeers. Along the way, he gets robbed and beaten up, but still manages to meet Treville and get appointed to the Guard, free of charge. However, after gaining admission, he sees his robbers passing by, and dashes to exact his revenge, along the way, accidentally insulting 3 other musketeers, Athos, Porthos and Aramis. Each feeling that their honor has been compromised, they challenge D'Artagnan to a duel. However, they are all threatened with arrest by the infamous Cardinal's Guard, as there is a law against dueling. D'Artagnan momentarily joins forces with the other musketeers, and they drive the cardinal's guard away. Almost immediately, D'Artagnan befriends the other musketeers, and they encounter numerous other adventures and action-packed events working for the King's Musketeer Guard.

D'Artagnan (The Three Musketeers), in the 18th century French, was my first foyer into French Lit and still just about my favorite. I had not read the story in English, so the rewards of a fine storyline made the struggle with the language worth the time it took. My first attempt at reading a classical French text in French. This is a great, fast-paced story, which really helps keep you motivated to fight through the 18th century vocabulary and conjugation, including a very healthy dose of the passé simple.
