It's the third time that I read this book, but now I read this listening to the audiobook from Scribd. Now I'm sure that my English knowledge will quite improve, 'cause my mother language is Portuguese. The Boxcar Children books aren't great literature, but I actually really appreciated this one because it celebrates the introvert! Violet, the quieter (some might say "shy" but I prefer "introvert" here), artistic one helps solve the mystery with her empathy and observation skills. The story acknowledges that sometimes it's okay not to want the spotlight and to chase your own dreams. I read this book 3 times. In this last time, I re-read it listening to the audio from https://pt.scribd.com, that now is available here in Brazil and I'm paying 8,90 dollars per month. I didn't know this site (I saw a note on Facebook about it). I only knew audible.com, that now is in my country too, but we must pay 14 dollars and I can only listen to ONE book per month. In Brazilian Scribd, I have saved 30 audios from books that I already read. Now it's easier for me to learn English on my own! I read this book 3 times. My kids and I have started listening to The Boxcar Children and this was the first one we listened to this month. They loved it! We had some great conversations about how important it is to talk about how we are feeling with our parents if we don’t like something! We are now starting mystery of the lighthouse, can’t wait to show my kids what else the Alden grandchildren are up to!

I really enjoyed the book. I felt so sorry for Kayla. It is sad when parents try to live through their children. I LOVED the sound effects. The sound of the juice being poured made me pause the book and go get a cold drink! I am glad to finally read one of the boxcar children's books after hearing about them for many years. We love listening to these as a family on road trips. The stories are somewhat predictable, but my children (ages 9 and 8) like trying to guess 'who did it'. I like the positive representation of friend and sibling relationships. Great for even young ages. We love listening to these as a family on road trips. I haven't listened or read these books since I was in elementary school and my teacher would read out loud to us. This is the 1st one I have read since then and still like it. Fun addition to the boxcar children, they are the same goody-goods as always and help solve a mystery.

Read this for a bedtime story to my kids - great story, typical Boxcar stuff.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The eight-year old girl that I gave this book to just loved it.
