    In his book Music of Another World, Szymon Laks shares about his experience being a member and Kappellmeister of the orchestra at Birkenau concentration camp. He tries to paint a realistic picture of the role that music had in everyday life at Birkenau, and points out that many recollections over the years have too much romanticized how the orchestras and music affected those around them at various concentration camps. I appreciate his approach and would recommend this read, as I think he brings In his book Music of Another World, Szymon Laks shares about his experience being a member and Kappellmeister of the orchestra at Birkenau concentration camp.
