    Nikki in Niagara

A typical story in the series which will entertain and educate fans. Here the Stiltons go back to 1890s France to rescue the first moving pictures machine from the villainous claws of the Pirate Cats.

Lights, Camera, Stilton Review by Will Squires Mosher In Lights, Camera, Stilton, Professor Von Volt has Geronimo go back in time to stop the Pirate Cats from stealing the cinematograph, which was created by the Lumiere brothers in Paris in 1896. The cinematograph was the first movie projector. The cats want it to be their invention, so they try to convince the inventors to sell it to them. Then Geronimo tells the Lumieres that the cats, who are disguised as mice, cannot be trusted. You see more details and more of the action than in the normal illustrations in a Geronimo Stilton chapter book. The graphics help you see what it was like in the past. I wouldn't recommend the graphic novels more than the regular novels, but in general, I like the chapter books more than the graphic novels.

Quite simply, the topic and plot wasn't engaging enough to warrant a recommendation. There are better volumes in the series than this. Quite simply, the topic and plot wasn't engaging enough to warrant a recommendation. There are better volumes in the series than this.

1 star & 1/10 hearts. I was very disappointed by this book. The images are not at all the same as the usual Stilton books and it distracted & annoyed me so much I could barely concentrate on the story.

This colorful Geronimo Stilton tale does a great job of sneaking in a little history with its adventure. All the familiar characters are here, although if this is a reader's first exposure to the Geronimo Stilton books, plentiful background and character development are provided. Although this story starts off at a concert given by the famous pop group "Top Direction," most of it takes place in Paris as the Lumiere Brothers attempt to launch their movie-making enterprise. The Pirate Cats want to steal the Lumieres' technology, but not if Geronimo and crew can help it! "Lights, Camera, Stilton!" is likely to satisfy most young readers with its mix of humor (cheese puns galore) and suspense. Although it's not as weighty, this little graphic novel might pair well with The Invention of Hugo Cabret as they both explore the origins of cinema.
