   I'm not particularly fond of western stories, but "mississippi river" or Jim Cutlass #1 has a different tone that kept me seeing it to the end. I could do with smaller speech bubbles but the story was solid with it's plot twists and turns, an atypical civil war drama with balanced action and a small portion of romance. Moebius is more "blueberry" than anything else, it's nice to see him change his drawing conventions for a more loose style that fits better to the tone of Charlier's script.    Вестерн, который по-хорошему должен был быть очередной серией Blueberry, но из-за разногласий с издателем авторы выпустили его отдельно, с совершенно новыми персонажами. Как замечает американский редактор во вступительном слове, Mississippi River - история, близкая по духу (но не по формату) к "Унесённым ветром", изюминкой же является тот факт, что все персонажи (включая титульного) здесь являются в той или мной мере анти-героями. По современным меркам исполнение данной идеи далеко от идеала, но Вестерн, который по-хорошему должен был быть очередной серией Blueberry, но из-за разногласий с издателем авторы выпустили его отдельно, с совершенно новыми персонажами. Сюжет мне показался умеренно интригующим, его повороты частично надуманными и далеко не всегда оправданными. Рисунок тоже достаточно вялый - вспоминались слова Мёбиуса из прошлых комментариев, где он признавался, что маскирует недостатки чрезмерным обилием деталей. В целом мне скорее не понравилось, но тут стоит учесть, что вестерны я обычно терпеть не могу.

   OK We all know Giraud ( note I didn't call him Moebius) for his western work on the Blueberry Series with JM Charlier, here this is like an off beat western which doesn't have anything similar to Blueberry, art work is good, about the story is build upon characters around the American Civil war, everybody likes to seize the opportunity to turn upon themselves, Jim Cutlass himself is a person who does everything by the way it comes. Its just a Volume 1 of the series and the good thing is the story arc ends with 1 volume at a time which we may not find in the blueberry series. I found this copy inside the collected Graphitti designs Blueberry 9 book along with the Lost Dutchmen's Mine/Ghost with golden bullets and that is just a classic..

   Sharp art and really great storytelling. Cutlass manages to get himself out of trouble every time, but never quite enough to stay on top! Too bad this is the only volume starring this character that these two did together. I haven't read any Lieutenant Blueberry yet, though, so maybe those stories will give me a similar fix.
