VCS sure knows how to sell nostalgia, and this is no exception. The recipes aren't as gimmicky as I thought they would be, though, all things considered. I was very happy to receive “The Vermont Country Store Cookbook“ from The Hachette Book Group and Grand Central Publishing through the Goodreads First Reads Giveaway program. I have received Vermont Country Store catalogs for years, so I found the history and trivia about this store very interesting. I have received Vermont Country Store catalogs for years, so I found the history and trivia about this store very interesting. The recipes are of the old-fashioned, pinch of salt, stick to your ribs type; I'm looking forward to trying some of these. But recipes and history/trivia aside; what I like most about this book are the photos, they are so warm and inviting ... even my BFA in photography daughter mentioned how nice they are. Lovely, lovely book.

The Vermont Country Store cookbook is a very nice coffee table recipe book. It is heavy and nicely printed. The beginning of the book tells about the country store with photographs. I wasn't too interested in this section. However, the recipes were nice food porn. I love to read recipes so this book was right up my alley. This would be a nice gift. I love the photos (old and new) and reading about the early days of the store. This is a great book, but a must for those who are familiar with The Vermont Country Store. picked this up mainly for my daughter who fell in love with their catalog a couple of years ago and I enjoy browsing through it as well. If you love Vermont Country Store, this is chock-full of anecdotes about the founding of the company and Vermont life. Recipes fit the wholesome, home-cooked pattern. Nothing really jumped out at me to make though.
