(Goodreads) Review: What a great book for anyone that has children or has interactions with children of all ages. There are so many ideas and variations of games that we all played as children. The variations and the large amount of ideas contained in this book are amazing. There are sections dealing with outdoor activities, indoor activities, art and crafts, and imagine games. There is even a section dealing with determining who should go first, which I thought was clever. Another thing that I thought was good was the fact that many of these ideas and activities do not cost anything. Many of the activities can be done spur-of-the-moment and do not require any additional articles. I would recommend this book to anyone who has children, be it a parent or a grandparent or a babysitter. I will be using some of the ideas from this book when I babysit my grandchildren over Christmas break. This book would make a great holiday present.

I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. A great book filled with all sorts of games for various ages, individuals and group, rain and shine, indoor and outdoor and many other scenarios. I would highly recommend this book to any parent, educator, or anyone who just wants to enjoy play. I will definitely order a copy for the school library. I loved many quotes, statistics and facts throughout the book on the importance of structured and unstructured play. After reading this I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I loved many quotes, statistics and facts throughout the book on the importance of structured and unstructured play. After reading this book, I also want to read "The importance of play" by David Elkind and the "Last child in the woods" by Richard Louv that are mentioned in this book. Descriptions of the games are great: clear instructions with just enough detail to fully understand the rules of the game, yet not too long. You can tell the author has tried all the games and had fun doing it. I could list 30 different types of games mentioned in the book but that would make one long list. Let's just say that she thought of any occasion; trips, rain, music, literary, holidays, construction play, outside play, pretend games and SO MANY other. You cannot go wrong by reading this book- it will educate you about the importance of play, inspire you to do it and give you ideas on how to do it.

Where was this book when I was babysitting?! If I had had this book back then, I think that I would have had a lot less babysitting shifts ending in tears (for them or me). I was still basically a bored kid myself so having a list like this would have been a complete life saver for me! I learned a lot reading this book! I didn’t know there were so many different forms of play. All of this information will be wonderful to have someday when I have kids or nieces and nephews or friends with kids. I didn’t know there were so many different forms of play. All of this information will be wonderful to have someday when I have kids or nieces and nephews or friends with kids. I personally don’t really know anyone with children to test these fun activities out on at this point in my life! But let’s be real, I’m probably gonna have to try out some of these activities myself when I get bored. Because there is a recipe in here to make ice cream and ice cream is one of my favorite things in life. This book brings back a lot of memories from when I was a kid! Because a lot of these activities are things that I have done before when I was bored out of my mind. This book also contains a lot of activities that I have been wanting to try out for myself! I have been wanting to make a terrarium for awhile and now I have some good instructions on how to go about that! There are even a few activities that I never would have thought of myself! There’s something in this book for everyone!! This book has everything you could ever need to keep children entertained! It’s also got a fun section of ways to determine who gets to go first! I imagine that would keep a lot of fights from occurring! I think my favorite thing about this book is that it gives helpful instructions on how to make armpit farts. All the variations of the game tag in this book are interesting! When I was a kid and my grandma would babysit my sister and I along with our two boy cousins, we made up toilet tag. If you were tagged, you had to freeze in that spot with one arm out and someone could run by and ‘flush’ you and you were back in again! We had a lot of fun playing that game. I would recommend this book to anyone who has any contact with children at all, ever. I don’t think that you’d have any trouble entertaining a child from birth to when they leave the nest for good with this book! And I personally can’t wait to try some of these activities for myself!

This book has so many creative ideas -- many of which require no props or prep -- to keep kids from crying "I'm bored!" The book has numerous categories, including but not limited to Food Fun, imaginary play, rain play, playground play, holidays, etc. There is even a comprehensive section on ways to decide who gets to go first! A great resource to liven up summer vacation, or to give a new babysitter to get her a leg up on her competition. This book is filled with fun for all the children in your life. After we finished our Thanksgiving meal, I took all of my nieces and nephews outside to play Red Rover, it was new to them, they loved it! I can't wait until we get together again so I can introduce them to more fun games! Thanks for this fun filled book, it was a fun reminder of my childhood!
