Elisabeth Elliot: Joyful Surrender

Availability: Ready to download

Since she was young, Elisabeth Elliot had been intrigued by missionaries who gave up so much to tell others about God's love. With a passion to translate the Bible into new languages, she followed God's call to work among tribes in Ecuador, including the Waorani (Auca), who had killed her husband and four others. Elisabeth kept a detailed journal of her life and missionary Since she was young, Elisabeth Elliot had been intrigued by missionaries who gave up so much to tell others about God's love. Elisabeth kept a detailed journal of her life and missionary service. She returned to the United States after many years in South America, becoming one of the most influential Christian women of our time. A prolific author, speaker, and radio host, she passes on a message of joyful surrender to the world. (1926-2015)

Thanks to the many books we've read by the Benges, my daughters and I already knew what happened in the jungle of Ecuador. However, Elisabeth Elliot's life was so much more than that moment. She is an inspiration to women. I enjoyed reading more about "Betty" Elliot's life, which certainly wasn't easy. However, I found the writing in this book a bit uneven. The vast majority of the book takes place before she is 30. In fact, a lot of the book felt like a story of how Betty waited. . .and waited. The vast majority of the book takes place before she is 30. In fact, a lot of the book felt like a story of how Betty waited. . .and waited. . .and waited for Jim Elliot to ask her to marry him. While that part of her life is interesting, I would have liked to have know more about the other 59 years of her life. She accomplished some amazing things after Jim was killed, but I felt like the authors raced through those events. I would have perferred that Betty's early life cover 1/3 of the book, and the rest focus on what she did after Jim's death.

Full disclosure: I didn't know who Elisabeth "Betty" Elliot was before reading this book. I picked it up on a whim because I needed a book by or about a missionary for a reading list. After finishing it, all I can say is Wow! What an incredible life! P.S. Have tissues handy when reading. You've been warned. Happy New Year! We made it through 2021, a year full of trials, sadness, and triumphs. Times can be really tough. Author Elisabeth Elliot writes in such a way that the reader is taken back to a more genteel time. As if you’re having tea together. But that does not mean her book has no depth. Elliot has been walking with the Lord for a long time, has experienced much, and has much to teach us. She’s not afraid to talk about topics that aren’t popular today. And she always points us back to God and what He says on these subjects. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

A Woman of Great Faith Regardless of her Circumstances I would recommend this book for any woman claiming to be a follower of Christ. Elizabeth Elliot was committed to following Christ regardless of the trials and challenges that were placed at her feet.

This is the third biography we've read of those who were part of the ministry to the Waorani in Ecuador. Each book tells a different part of the story and all are definitely worth reading. The rating I give is only for the writing style, but the story of her life itself is beautiful! Seeing her love story, the way God worked through her, her family’s lives! It’s all fascinating to me.

A great, simple book to introduce you to Elisabeth Elliot, but I was disappointed the book didn't expound upon the latter years of her life. A great, simple book to introduce you to Elisabeth Elliot, but I was disappointed the book didn't expound upon the latter years of her life.

A great overview of Elisabeth Elliot’s life. I’ve read most of Elliots’s books, but this one is written by the Benges and was good to read.

Very good book. I read "Jim Elliot" first, which really helped me hear the story from different perspectives. I think anyone over 10 would enjoy it, definitely. If you are going to read this book, I would also like to suggest you read "Jim Elliot" by Janet & Geoff Benge also. Both are great books!!! Very good book. What a wonderful book! You'll find details about Elisabeth's life in the jungle and her response to various disappointments. I'm a mom of four but found I had plenty of time to read this book! Highly recommend it. What a wonderful book! You'll find details about Elisabeth's life in the jungle and her response to various disappointments.
