I feel like this book had everything to be cute, but then the characters would go and say the wrong thing. Zadie is a strong willed heroine. I liked that she wasn’t a fainting, wilting flower and that she knew what she wanted. However, her level of independence was more unrealistic than I could accept even for a romance. What kind of 19th century woman worries about “losing herself” in a marriage? Her spirit was admirable but a single woman who lost her father and had to take care of herself plu I feel like this book had everything to be cute, but then the characters would go and say the wrong thing. Her spirit was admirable but a single woman who lost her father and had to take care of herself plus her mother and her maid would be jumping for joy for having found a man like Duncan. Duncan was better but he was also a bit curt and mean to her sometimes. I prefer my men a bit more open minded. Yes you read that right. Zadie was too open minded, Duncan not enough. Then the book ends right as they were starting to get along. I would have liked to see at least an epilogue showing them a few years down the line.

Beautiful! Zadie and Duncan's story will keep you reading! Can she truly be happy as a wife without losing her identity? Will he be able to convince her to stay with him and become his wife or will the wild country scare her away? Beautiful! Zadie and Duncan's story will keep you reading! I just love these novels of E Ayers. All the characters are so real and human. Great story.

Excellent What an excellent book, even with a somewhat arranged marriage love still prevails, not a lot of adventure but a lot of love in the book.
