   Always an interesting grab bag of comics, these Adventure Time Comics anthologies allow a multitude of artists to tackle the Adventure Time characters and worlds in their own diverse styles, to differing degrees of success. Some seem to just rehash common themes of the series, while others focus on more it’s strange or unique aspects, or take minor supporting characters in interesting new directions. Of course, it’s always fun to see the familiar seen through a different style. Some seem to just rehash common themes of the series, while others focus on more it’s strange or unique aspects, or take minor supporting characters in interesting new directions. Of course, it’s always fun to see the familiar seen through a different style. The ones that focus on the more introspective moods of the show are stronger in general than the ones that go for pure comedy, I feel. Generally, though, if you don’t care for a certain comic, it’s okay, since it’s only a couple of pages until something new pops up. Volume Five is perhaps my favorite of the lot, with Jeffrey Brown providing a really fun little Adventure Time romp in his inimitable style.

   As much as these anthology books are quite the mixed bag, I still enjoy them a lot. This set continues the tradition of featuring some great art that spans very different interpretations of various Adventure Time characters and some pretty wacky stories. Even the simplest ones like a wordless story about Ice Finn from the alternate reality where Finn the Human took on the Ice King's crown and Jake was possessed by the Lich turned out to be a very poignant and memorable one. As much as these anthology books are quite the mixed bag, I still enjoy them a lot.
