   Another great book about Martin Luther King Jr. It is a great way to teach the things that he believed in. It teaches about racism, about equality and standing up for justice. It also teaches about courage and bravery.

   This book is a biography about Martin Luther King Jr. The book quickly goes through Martin’s life starting with his childhood and the activist spokesman he becomes. I honestly was not sure how they were going to fit all of his life into a children's book, but they did a really great job of summarizing his work and all the accomplishments he did for society. The book went through his youth with his father being a minister, him noticing the “white only” signs on different buildings, his experience This book is a biography about Martin Luther King Jr. The book quickly goes through Martin’s life starting with his childhood and the activist spokesman he becomes. I honestly was not sure how they were going to fit all of his life into a children's book, but they did a really great job of summarizing his work and all the accomplishments he did for society. The book went through his youth with his father being a minister, him noticing the “white only” signs on different buildings, his experience with a white friend who was told to stop hanging out with him, him learning about racism, and Martin becoming a minister and giving speeches on equal rights. The book ends with the impact that Martin made and how his speeches still inspire people today. The book has images that are incredibly relatable to students. The images in the book are painted with what looks like water colors instead of real photos or pictures. This allows more student engagement because it seems more like a story to them and less like an informational book. I would definitely recommend this book to 3rd grade students. I actually found this book in my mentor teachers library and was super excited when I saw it. I think this would be a great book for students to read independently or read aloud. There are so many ways I could use this book in my classroom. This book could teach my students about racism and standing up for justice. I could also use this book to teach students about bravery and courage as well as cause and effect. Students could do different activities to show how his different actions had many different effects. This book should definitely be introduced to students because it teaches them about an important historical figure as well as teaching students important concepts including racism and equality.

The book is ideal for grades 1 and 2 because of the reading level and the vocabulary used throughout. The book has images that are relatable to students.    Let's Read About... Martin Lurther King, Jr., First Biographies is great for Early Education. This teaches students about the adversities Mr. King faced as a child and adult in a version understandable for young learners. The story talks about how Martin could no longer play with a friend because of their color of skin. Martin was very sad! The story also reveals how Martin had self-regulation skills at age 8. Instead of fighting physically he choose to fight with his intelligence. Martin began Let's Read About... Martin Lurther King, Jr., First Biographies is great for Early Education. The story explains how Martin grew up not understanding the inequality with black people, so he eventually led his "I have a dream" speech so everyone can be equal now. I would read this book around the time of MLK Day to remind my students the importance of treating everyone equal regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, etc. The students would write a letter addressed to MLK and This story describes the life of Martin Luther King Jr. It is filled with many facts, starting with his birth date.     These First Biographies series "Let's Read About" are great at introducing your young reader-listener to real people. This one starts with Mr King's birth and his childhood (helping children know that he was a kid like them) and then on into his adulthood and what he did for society. It does, of course, deal with segregation so an adult may have to answer questions of a child. But what a great way to open the door for discussion! A good book.
