It’s great for what it is: A fun middle-grade graphic novel.

My son insisted that I read these! Beautifully illustrated with an engaging story that twists and turns in fantastical ways. I can understand why these GN's are so wildly popular with the 7-10 year olds. My son insisted that I read these! This book reveals a lot of themes. Example, it is like and adventure mix with fantasy.

I started reading this series when I was in second grade. I loved the series from the start because it was easy to read, but it still had an interesting plot. The illustrations in this series brought me to love it even more. The result of me reading this book was that I was much more open to reading different types of books. The first time someone recommended this series to me I thought that it would be terrible. I was proved wrong when I started reading book one. This book contributes to me, as a reader today because it taught me that I should never say a book is bad until I start reading the book. Overall, this series is easy to read but has a somewhat complicated plot and amazing illustrations!

My son discovered these at school. I flipped through one and liked the art, so I decided to give them a try. They were... meh. The art was engaging, but I felt like the story needed a lot more fleshing out. Each book felt like a chapter in a bigger narrative, not a self-contained story. Several of them ended on cliff-hangers; I was glad to have the next one ready to hand. The writing was a bit awkward at times, and again, I was frustrated by a sense of incompletion. However, the art was beautiful and the world very unique and intriguing. I will read the final book when it comes out to see how everything wraps up. And I doubt the target audience minds if certain plot points are contrived or characters lack a bit of depth.

This is a great series because of the good pictures and interesting plot. As I finish the first few books I felt that I'm starting to really know the main characters well because the book shows how they feel to certain memories. When I finish the eighth book I know that as the series is coming to an end, the main characters have to work together to stop the shadows from taking of the world. Today I know that teamwork is a very important trait and can help in many ways. This is a great series because of the good pictures and interesting plot. Grading on a curve for the target audience :) I enjoyed reading this concurrently with my daughter (10); it's been one of her favorite series and the cliffhangers are really effective for her. And, sure, for me, too, maybe. Banger of a book, I first read volume one in year 4. Lost the copy. Moved to Australia and stumpled upon the series in a bookstore in yr 9, and been following the series ever since ❤ Its aimed towards a younger audience but has mature undertones and overall a good coming of age type beat // character development

This graphic novel series was fun. Apparently there will be another book. I was disappointed that Book 7 ended with Emily transformed into an evil creature. She's such a quiet, serious, and kind character, but because she couldn't control her powers, the stone overtook her. I didn't like finding "to be continued..."on the last page. It's going to be hard to wait for the next one to come out! This graphic novel series was fun. Apparently there will be another book.
