The Physician Moms Cook group chose this book as our latest to cook through from start to finish. Our world changed so much from when we started this challenge. We adapted, dug into our pantries, bookmarked recipes we want to go back to once ingredients are available but between us we cooked 80% of the recipes. Less than in past challenges because we are living in the world of corona. Thanks @halfbakedharvest for allowing 4,906 front line physicians to do what we love- feed our families. I follow Tieghan Gerard on Instagram and was so excited she came out with this cookbook. She’s an awesome food photographer. I love cookbooks with beautiful pictures because it helps me to visualize what the dish should look like - and this is one of them! It also has simple, approachable and delicious recipes for every meal. I can’t wait to try some of these out! This would also make a great gift for the home cook.

Ok. I know a cookbook is not literature. But I have made eight dishes out of this book and only one I probably will not make again. Two have already joined the rotation of family meals and my family is picky. So far this book has proven to be used as much as my Ina Garten books, and if you know me, you know I cook her recipes all the time. Just sayin'. Ok. I know a cookbook is not literature. This cookbook is fantastic! A large variety of dishes, including vegetarian (YAY!), but the best sections are the breakfast and dessert ones. I love that there are little codes above the recipes to let you know if it is one pan, or pantry staples, or less than 10 ingredients. I also really love all of Tieghan's little stories and tidbits. These definitely all seem like super-simple recipes and I can't wait to start going through what the pages I have marked with post-its (soooo many post-its!)! E This cookbook is fantastic! Edit 11/9/19: Made the Butter Pecan Bars with Chocolate and Coconut and oh my word...heaven on a plate!!! And so easy to make!!! The instructions were super simple to follow and I loved that this absolute DELIGHT of a dessert didn't have a whole lot of ingredients!

Tieghan is a great photographer and really knows how to make every single recipe look delicious. Even the recipes that have strange ingredients or combinations sound great the way she describes them. But when it comes to taste, her recipes are very white. Most of her recipes are very bland, heavy on dairy and bacon, unhealthy, and use ingredients that are expensive or difficult to find. If I want to cook her recipes on a regular, I need a special grocery trip just for the fancy ingredients. I appreciate the unique, out-of-the-box twists that she adds to traditional recipes, but that just takes away the taste and flavor. I also don't like how some "Middle Eastern inspired" dishes are just grouped under "Indian" - if she wants to cook our food, the least she can do is write a line or two about the original, traditional recipe/technique for the sake of credit and cultural appreciation. But maybe it was my own fault for having any expectations from someone like her. Overall, these recipes are suited for those who like bland, unseasoned food and want to try whitewashed "eastern" dishes. But this book is still a waste of money. Most of these recipes can be found free of cost on her website and/or Instagram page. I did not give it any stars because it's a 0/5 for me. It's the exact same case with her first book.

This is an excellent weeknight cookbook. Everything I've tried so far has been great and super easy. I love the bread/pizza dough, buffalo cauliflower bites, chicken tikka masala, French onion soup, and roasted tomato soup. Everything basically tastes like it came from Panera, which is honestly exactly what I want. We do a lot of time-consuming cooking, but we needed some quick and solid weeknight options where we can still manage to make everything from scratch. This is an excellent weeknight cookbook. Thank goodness for this cookbook! I brought it home from the library where I work when we shut down for the COVID19 outbreak. Ive been cooking from it almost every day, and will buy the Kindle version. Cooking and eating these delicious, beautiful, easy recipes has definitely kept me sane and much happier.

I came across this cookbook on the new releases shelf at my library. I like Half-Baked Harvest, so I decided to give it a try. I love to cook, so I made a list of recipes to make. This list was long, because they all sounded good. I wanted to be sure I tried at least 3 before I wrote a review of the cookbook. The recipes I tried were great, particularly ones for meals. Pad See Ew was incredibly quick and simple, as described - absolutely would make again. Same with Basil Beef. All of the dinners I I came across this cookbook on the new releases shelf at my library. Pad See Ew was incredibly quick and simple, as described - absolutely would make again. Same with Basil Beef. All of the dinners I tried were delicious and not too difficult to make. I also tried the Chickpea and Carrot Tagine, Lemony Halibut and Chickpeas, and Sesame-Crusted Salmon (although mine had to cook much longer than hers). All yummy. My love is desserts, so I was particularly happy to check out her sweets section. I skipped over cakes, as I don't make that many of those, but she had 3 bar cookie recipes, so I had to try those. Hazelnut Spread Brownies were only 5 ingredients, and definitely counted as easy. The other two didn't, in my opinion. Her Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Blondie Bars, however, were not particularly easy. I was disappointed that they call for a brownie mix, and not even a usual brownie mix like Betty Crocker. I get the reasoning - it's one less batter to make, but quite honestly, brownies can be easy. I don't use mixes, and I had to google the one she uses to see how much batter it makes. So I made my brownie recipe, a peanut butter cookie dough, layered them, and then layered in a peanut butter swirl. It took a lot more effort than I would have expected; they were yummy, but not exceptional. Butter Pecan Bars with Coconut and Chocolate were decadent and worth eating - rich and sweet. I shared them with friends, and loved the taste. But I still am not sure that making a shortbread crust, plus making a caramel sauce on the stove, plus baking, counts as easy. Totally worth it, but it's a usual bar cookie recipe, not a quick one. My quibbles with the desserts aside (and those are delicious anyway), the recipes I tried from this cookbook were delicious and easy to make. Definitely worth checking out.

I’m a big fan of the pictures and some of the simple recipes (Dad’s Cheesy Eggs for one), but I was disappointed the number I times I got excited about a recipe, only to be let down by the ingredient list. And let's not even talk about the curry. Still, it does offer some great ideas, and perhaps I'll use another cookbook to fill in all the holes that the store-bought, prepackaged ingredients make.

I had a gift card for a bookstore, was drawn to the cover of this one, read the introduction and thought, yup, this is for me. Prior to buying this book, I had never heard of Tieghan Gerard or Half Baked Harvest -- and I still haven't looked her up online -- so I approached this cookbook with no preconceived notions. First was the Thai Basil Beef which was actually a little two sweet for my taste. I am also not sure how anyone can prep for this meal in the suggested five minute time. Maybe that assumes you already have everything chopped and measured?? The second dish was the Browned Sage-Butter Chicken Pot Pie which was FAN-tastic. My filling ended up very runny which I chalk up to using not quite thawed frozen broccoli. But the taste was amazing! If I could do a half star, I would give this one 3.5, but we'll round up to 4 since the pot pie was so good.

Apparently I rated her last cookbook before owning it or trying very many of the recipes. It's probably not very fair to rate a cookbook a full 5 stars before trying *any* of them, but I expect this will be a 5 star book as well. I've tried 80% or more (so far) of the last book's recipes, and enjoyed or loved all but maybe 1? I seem to have picked up a habit of buying cookbooks to use them and then end up reading them for pleasure.
