   Disclaimer: I received this book as part of GoodReads' First Reads program Covering the years from 1971 through 2018, Ganjaland is the story of an American drug smuggler, the growth to moving millions of dollars worth of product to the inevitable end in an American federal prison. Based in Florida, the author started moving weed from Jamaica to the US using boats and planes. Planes would be used to pick up the bales of weed, which were wrapped in waterproof plastic and tape. Based in Florida, the author started moving weed from Jamaica to the US using boats and planes. Planes would be used to pick up the bales of weed, which were wrapped in waterproof plastic and tape. The pilots and the guys who pushed the weed out of the plane would fly to where a boat was waiting and drop the product in to the water, where it was picked up and placed in hidden compartments in a boat. This would in turn go Florida for offloading, where it was divided up for distributors who would sell it, take their cut and send the author his share, which he would use to pay the people who had helped him. These people included local police, who would be happy to look the other way for a little (lot) of cash. After some bad experiences, the planes were disposed of, and the bales of weed would be driven to where boats could be loaded. Inevitably, one of his colleagues was caught in the US, and ratted him out, leading to an arrest. Skipping bail, he assumes a false name and spends the next 20 years in Jamaica. It's an interesting story, told well, and well worth reading. Highly recommended.

   Literature it ain't. But there is a certain nostalgic charm. Imagine being an old hippie sittin around his man cave with a cold beer and some good weed.
