I do actually remember the launch of this whole Leviathan crossover extravaganza and all the CBR adjacent buzz, while everyone else who’d been burned by 1) DC 2) DC’s most recent crossover with Heroes In Crisis 3) Brian Michael Bendis and 4) comics as a concept were less than hyped. Anyway all I really remember is reading a few issues of that pretty excellent actually Lois Lane miniseries by…I think Greg Rucka?— and the first issue of the actual Event Leviathan because 1) Jason Todd was there an I do actually remember the launch of this whole Leviathan crossover extravaganza and all the CBR adjacent buzz, while everyone else who’d been burned by 1) DC 2) DC’s most recent crossover with Heroes In Crisis 3) Brian Michael Bendis and 4) comics as a concept were less than hyped. I can’t remember at all now, the plot completely escapes me. I think the third issue had a cool cover with Jason though. So yeah, the event never left a lasting impression. Anyway, bringing me to this issue, which is an Event Leviathan crossover. Everything that happened here was completely impenetrable without context, truly deep in the throes of a crossover event. So I can’t comment on writing, really. One thing I really could appreciate though, was how flipping through it, you really would leave with the thought like “wow, that was a comic book, for sure. The Most comic book of all.” I dunno how to explain; it just felt somehow familiar in the shape of everything playing out like…I dunno some primal comic book archetype that when the plot’s glazed out beyond recognition helps you notice the quintessential…comic book-ness of it all. Anyway. Random tangent. Kudranski’s art is gorgeous, the colourist and inker and, I dunno who ever does the bubbles and letters, all did a spectacular job, a work of art. Just spend a minute or two trying to drink up the quality and beauty of every page really. Oh, and I picked this up because that COVER. courtesy of Jamal Campbell, who’s fast becoming my favourite artist.

I don't know why there is such a big difference between the two Superman books Bendis is writing, but the dialogue and pace of this series is really confusing...
