I just heard that Marvel now cancelled the Runaways series. This is supposed to be the last volume in that run, which is a real shame because I thought Rainbow Rowell was doing a great job writing these fun and adventurous stories! Andrés Genolet did a great job on the artwork, too. I would really have loved to continue reading about everything that happens to this group of teenagers. Even thought #38 was a great ending to this story arch, there are a lot of unanswered questions (like what happe I just heard that Marvel now cancelled the Runaways series. While this is just as good as the volumes that precede it, due to an abrupt cancellation of the series it has to serve as a finale, and it is lousy at that. Created with the intention of having a next volume, there are nothing but cliffhangers and unresolved storylines by the last page. I have nothing but love for the creative team, but here's a big BOOOOOOO for Marvel. Nothing like one of my favorite comics getting cancelled on a cliffhanger.

Doombot. Majesdanians. Alex Wilder. Gert Squared. Wolverine and the X-Men. All of this and more in the final volume of Rainbow Rowell's Runaways. Don't expect an ending here. While comics are always telling an ongoing story, this volume does not cap off Rainbow Rowell's run at all, instead leaving us with more questions than answers. But for that, I blame Marvel more than anyone else. The story itself is still as brilliant and heartfelt as ever. There are twists, turns, continuity references that Doombot. Majesdanians. But for that, I blame Marvel more than anyone else. The story itself is still as brilliant and heartfelt as ever. There are twists, turns, continuity references that will make you smile, and character beats that feel so natural it's as if BKV has returned to write the series again. It's all so wonderful, and then it has to end. Sigh. Andres Genolet's artwork again follows ably in the footsteps of Kris Anka, who does return for the final issue although it's only for a few pages. Runaways has always looked polished without trying too hard, and the fashions continue to impress. Don't be sad that it's over, be happy that we got to experience it at all. 38 issues is more than I'd have ever hoped for way back when this series started, and it's more than any other volume has reached before. Maybe one day the Runaways will get a chance to address all the cliffhangers here, but don't let the open-ended ending stop you from enjoying this while it lasts.

I hate that this is how it ends, there was so much potential left in this series. The repercussions of the time travel element is kind of smoothed over without much scrutiny. Liked the Wolverine and Pixie cameos.

As with everything comic related I love (minus Saga), this series was canceled. This was a great story with an interesting arch and ending on a fucking cliff hanger Bc why, universe, whyyyyy? Follow me for more doomed to fail comic series 💫💫💫

Gotta give this last volume of my beloved series a 5, for all the feels along this wonderful journey. I'll never forget these beautiful characters, or stop wondering where Rainbow was going with them next, or stop desperately longing for more. I really love the art and Rainbow Rowell's run for the Runaways. However, all this time travelling is starting to get a bit tedious. I really love the art and Rainbow Rowell's run for the Runaways. However, all this time travelling is starting to get a bit tedious.

I loved this series but I’m sad it got cancelled. Not a lot got resolved so that’s a little sad. But I love what they’ve done with the characters!

I wish I could be more objective about my reaction to this book, but the cancellation really affected my enjoyment. The volume ends in several major, major cliffhangers, and with the book cancelled, who knows when or if they'll ever be resolved. Ending the book at this point was obviously not in any way planned, and there's clearly at least another dozen issues of planned story that will never happen. Incredibly frustrating. Eh.

4.5 stars. Genuinely shed a little tear towards the end there! I think plot wise this one was one of my favourites, but the pacing got a little weird in the last couple of issues. Really upset we won’t be getting any more of this run, I would’ve loved to see what happens with the gang. Very impressed with what Rowell did with this run, and I’m super excited to follow what she does with She-Hulk!

I’m extremely behind on comics and figured there’d be an issue 39 since this ended on a complete cliffhanger and let me tell you I surely did yell when I saw “goodbye” on the letters page T_T off to google if we’ll have a new series any time soon. This was absolutely one of my favorite series of the past few years. An absolute joy to read.

Five stars (at least) to the creative team on this book that got me excited about comics again for the first time in a long time. Zero stars to Marvel Comics for canceling it - especially on such a major series of cliffhangers.

This was all over the place, and knowing that this volume is the end of the run made that even more frustrating. This could have just been a chaotic, rushed, and lackluster installment, but thanks to Marvel cancelling the series, it had to become a terrible and totally unsatisfying finale.

While this run of Runaways has been fun, enough complications had been introduced so that it needed to end. And while Rowell doesn't resolve everything, she does leave this most special of Marvel teams with a clear way forward for future creators. This series by Rainbow Rowell is so excellent. I can’t believe they cancelled it on a cliffhanger. Where is the justice? Argh. Rowell’s Runaways, despite their powers and magic are really just lost kids and that makes them so relatable. I’ve been rooting for them so hard. Argh.

It would have gotten five stars, but the ending was very rushed. It's not the author's fault, because the series was canceled very abruptly, but it still lowers the quality of the volume.
