How embarrassing, for an elf like herself to bare no earthly arms. It’s bad enough her kind is ridiculed already. The life of a schoolgirl carries little excitement to spark her itch of finding the demon who slayed her biological parents. Cabil insists on letting go of the past, but the fire under the redhead’s furnace burns hot. Déjà vu—the complexity of the moment follows the adolescent to a reckless encounter where she later finds herself kidnapped—a terrible consequence for trying to seek out her brother’s assassin, someone working from the King’s High Council. Her high-end impulsive trait falling in the hands of Cabil’s sworn enemy—smells like a perfect formula for chaos. Not to worry, as long as she doesn’t tell anyone what happened in the dungeon that night, all will be well. Wishful thinking! So choppy I honestly am not even sure what I just read. Its choppy, you can't tell whats happening or who is in what scene and the story jumps around with no rhyme or reason. None of the characters were likeable and barely had any relationship with each other to make them even worth investing more time in. Not for me. The fight between good and evil gets an artistic turn here. I was completely absorbed in the story and enjoyed it beyond boundaries. This fantasy thriller invites you to a rollercoaster ride of emotions, survival, magic and mystery. Syreene and Cabil are the ones who drive the whole story. Cabil is fierce and courageous while Syreene is determined and strong-willed. One of the striking feature of this story is the evolution of Syreene. She is a delicate kind soul at the beginning of the story. But she slowly transformed into a fierce warrior due to her circumstances. She is in a process of finding her own identity and existence. But what makes this character interesting is, she is only exploring her unexposed identity. Because of that, her innate qualities stays the same. In other words, Syreene is an extremely satisfying protagonist. The narration and world-building is the two core pillars of this story. The author has created a foolproof world where elves, humans and demons are fighting for their supreme regime. Every character and the creation story was introduced in the beginning. This provides a comprehensive understanding of all characters beforehand. In short, this is an epic story of mystery and vengeance. You can't put down this thriller for sure.

Be prepared to jump into the fray! This book kicks off hard, and will throw you into a fantasy world where an age-old battle between good and evil transpires. While there is a lot of information to digest, Lombardi is one step ahead with a handy guide in the beginning of the book to help if at any stage you get lost – seeing as they are totally new creatures and not your run of the mill beasts and monsters, the guide is necessary and handy. I will not go too far into describing the story itself, I’ll leave that for your pleasure. Oh, but that ending…!! Anyway, I will say that this is a tale that will grip you from the start and will not let you go, even when you finish. If you are new to the fantasy genre or are just looking for a new series to sink your teeth into, then this is a great book for you. I am going to love book 2, I know it already. This is not your typical fantasy novel, so be prepared to be ensnared and to explore a whole new world complete with new creatures and an entirely original set of characters. The masterful way in which this story was written is the ultimate cherry on top, for Lombardi allows you to fully visualise the settings and feel every emotion of the characters and the hurdles they face. Fast-paced and full of adventure, this is a book you won’t want to put down!

Deep Dive into the world of Dessarians Dessa- Spirit of Vengeance, is the debut book in Andreya’s fantasy thrilling series that crossroads the conventional route. The usual plots of fantasy thrilling weave around a story between demons, elves, and humans. But this book gives a radical experience to fantasy readers. Andreya tries to bring out a story about the relationship between a brother and a sister, Cabil and teen Syreene, despite the fact that this is a story of vengeance. I was wrapped up in this story and get lost inside within a few minutes read. This made a fantastic read for me as the writer beautifully narrates the story accentuating the values of relationships. Cabil and Narus, both are devoted to saving Syreene, a half-elf schoolgirl who is hunting the criminals of her biological parents. The words are beautifully and impeccably engraved to maintain the rhythm of reading while making alluring visualizations in the reader’s mind. Can’t wait to read the second of the series. I suggest including some illustrations within the book to make it more attractive.

Maybe 1 star and a #something-not-okay filing is too harsh for a free Kindle book. Maybe I'm just asking to be dragged by the 22 people who gave it a 4 star average rating... But this book was just too much. It starts with what should be, in any normal fantasy book, the appendices. Multiple sections of worldbuilding notes, characters, nations, prehistory, maps, on and on, before the story starts. (Even better, a fantasy book might weave the worldbuilding *into* the story...) And, I consider myself pretty game for whatever names or terms the author might invent, but not here. The context-free infodump is part of it, but the words are clunky and awkward to read, much less consider how to pronounce them. And then I finally got to chapter 1 and I had to DNF. The prose was just overwrought. (Over-written? Ahem.) This is fantasy-literature-heartbreaker territory and I can't go there.

ok I totally agree that this book does jump around a lot , and to be honest it kind of made it a bit more faster paced , , but at times I had found myself confused of where I was or who I was looking on from . But if you're looking for excitement entangled with suspense then this is definitely the book for you , it has vampires and faeries in . and fighting , blood , and love and family death . It was something different , and I tried it , but I don't think I will read the next book , as like many ok I totally agree that this book does jump around a lot , and to be honest it kind of made it a bit more faster paced , , but at times I had found myself confused of where I was or who I was looking on from . And I would loss what was happening .

Does not dissapoint This book is different from most fantasies. Lombardy did an excellent job of giving the reader of context and developing the characters. Everything you need to know about characters/creatures, places, etc is in the front. Unlike others that put it in the back. It is great insight for what lies ahead of you. The cover art for this is gorgeous and the story had potential, I really wanted to like it, but honestly, half the time I didn't know what the heck was going on. There was barely any context given, not to the world, the different species, the magic system, how different powers worked etc, so I was left confused most of the time. The story was so choppy. It was frustrating and hard work to read, luckily it was a fairly short story, but I just couldn't get used to this authors writing style. Great start of a magical series The author has a beautiful way with words! Even though this is a new genre for me, the first chapters really draw the reader in so I can see how fans of adult fantasy really are intrigued and can read this in one sitting! There is a mystical and magical feel throughout with growing themes and plot twists! I love anything with a spark so if this is your first time diving into this genre, like me, then yes I recommend the book and the next if the series

Very interesting read. The cover caught my eye for sure! Magic is a core theme of this book. Something that kept me interested in the story. What was amazing about the author that when it comes to her writing it was like you were seeing what was happening in the book come to life! It is a book totally worth reading! I will not say much so I will not spoil. If you like Dark fantasy...this is a good read for you!

Intriguing but not very coherent. The possibility for this book sounded good but it was not very easy to follow. This book jumped all over the place and one character seemed to be the most coherently written while most of the other characters seemed kind of haphazardly written. This book had my interest just enough to finish it and leave me curious about the other books in the series but definitely not a favorite.

This was unlike anything I've ever read before. I was engrossed in this world. I liked Syreene and Cabil as the protagonists. I was a little confused and lost at times and I had to re read a couple paragraphs but it didn't irritate me. If anything I was more intrigued about what was going on. It was a very short book and I enjoyed reading it. I think I will continue with the series. This was unlike anything I've ever read before. I was engrossed in this world. Our main characters are Syreene and Cabil for this book, a brother and sister duo who couldn’t be anymore different. Cabil works for the city guard, killing demons, while Syreene is in school and has no actual training in self defense or anything. The plot of this book is extremely quick, and we’re thrown right into the mix, which as you all know, I really enjoy. The alternating perspectives and backwards glances can be a bit confusing, but it ended up wrapping up really well altogether. This is a very easy read, and there is a lot of death. I liked the action, it was easy to follow. The questions that we get are so good, it makes you want to pick up book 2. Let’s talk about the very extensive magic and fantasy system in this book: the first few pages of the book explain creatures, our royals, maps, and its all very extensive and very impressive. Andreya has thought up a very fascinating and addictive fantasy world! This has some adult content, so definitely keep that in mind!
