This book fed my Rough Rider longing soul. Man was it good to see all my fave people again. Especially Cord, Colby and Jack! Lorelei James is one of those comfort food authors for me. No one writes cowboys and western romance quite like her. I love all the yummy recipes too! Love is definitely in the air with this masterpiece!

Not only were the stories fun but the recipes reflect each of the stories. Cupcake Up gives us UNICORN CUPCAKES and the recipe I made Cranberry Chicken and Wild Rice came from Keely & Jack's story All Jammed up. I did have one little issue with the recipe it called for a bottle of dressing but didn't specify what size bottle and since it comes in two sizes I was a bit confused on how much I should use. This could be because I had an advanced copy and it didn't have the edited recipe or it could be that it's up to the person cooking to decide how sweet they want it. I made it a bit too sweet so I know next time to use the smaller bottle. But other than that I really enjoyed this dish. I love this collaboration and I hope to get all of Suzanne M. Johnson's cookbooks with various authors, thanks to Blue Box Press, in Paperback to display in my kitchen. If you have read any of the Rough Rider Series you're going to want to grab this little gem. I also loved how James didn't make it "all" sunshine and rainbows for these couples. These couples touch on some subjects that I think most of us forget all people go through; miscarriages, financial problems, creative dips, kid craziness, and yes she even had one of her couples go months without sex!! I know it's shocking right? I think sometimes we all get so lost in our romance books (where they have sex 6 times a day while never getting sore) that we are shocked our book couples could go through struggles after the HEA. But don't worry, everything always works out, especially in a book. This was a great, easy, quick read and I'm so excited to try some of the recipes! Make sure you keep an eye out for its release! ***5 Stars*** Many, many moons ago I fell in love with the Rough Riders series, which I actually started out of order, but quickly grabbed book 1 and basically devoured all the books that were out and then each one as they came out. I’m don’t have enough fingers and toes to count how many times I not only re-read the series, but certain books in the series (Rough, Raw and Ready IS my ultimate fav and the McKay twins are in second place because choosing one just isn’t fair) and it definitely set the standard on what I love when it comes to family dynamics in books. And though it’s been a while since I did a re-read of the series, doing the reviewer/blogger thing makes it a little hard some days, the love I have for it has never faded. So, diving into these short stories honestly felt like a homecoming. I loved getting to see what they were all doing after the HEA and it was everything I wanted and then some because everyone was either mentioned or actually in at least one of the stories, so I’m a happy, happy girl. (Though I wouldn’t mind a story about a certain road trip to a George Strait concert in the future *BSEG*) As for the cookbook side of things. I’ll be honest and admit that I didn’t spend too much time looking over the recipes because I needed to read the stories first, but upon my scanning, there are a few that definitely caught my eye and will definitely be trying out! ~ Copy provided by the author & voluntarily reviewed ~

Cowboy Bites is a fabulous look at some of the McKay couples from Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series. The vignettes of these five couples were a scrumptious delight for any fan; we see Cord and AJ right after they are married, Carter and Macie struggling with their third child on the way and good things are happening to them both, meanwhile Keely and Jack’s brood are around while she gets into a bit of a mess, Channing’s turning 40 and she and Colby prove they are hotter than ever, Indy’s having Cowboy Bites is a fabulous look at some of the McKay couples from Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series. I enjoyed every bite, but my two favorites were Recipe for Trouble with Indy and Colt. They’ve always been a favorite couple and a big plus was seeing Kade. And Jammed Up because I loved seeing Keely feeling a bit out of her element and Jack showing not only is he a good dad but he still knows exactly what Keely needs. Slice of life bites from Rough Rider couples plus the added recipes by Suzanne M. Johnson, those for the non cooks to those for the Chef Ramsay in all of us, Cowboy Bites is simply DELICIOUS!! I liked this one. I was expecting just a cookbook but this one also has six short stories from Rough Riders couples. I have read all of the Rough Riders books and enjoyed the short stories. I loved the recipes too. I'm a vegetarian but my family is not so I struggle with coming up with recipes for them to eat and I love getting cookbooks to try new recipes. The first recipe I tried was Root Beer Chicken. The kids had wanted chicken and I honestly didn't know what to do with it so I was happy to I liked this one. When I got to the part where the recipe said what we were doing with the can of root beer, I was a little shocked but it all turned out great and everyone loved the chicken. The next one, I tried was Stuffed Meatloaf. This one was a big hit with my family and they requested for it to be made again. This week we are going to try the Pizza Taquitos and Flank Steak Philly Rolls and at some point, I want to make Supreme Lasagna.

I'm a huge fan of Lorelei James and especially the Rough Riders series. So I was happy to purchase this book for another taste of my favorite cast of characters. The stories were cute (Boone's was my favorite and kept me laughing) and the recipes looked yummy. My only complaint was that the stories lacked the 'heat' we're use to getting from the author, especially in this series. What a great concept, delicious sounding recipes and catching up with some of our favorite Rough Riders. The recipes sounded very good and easy to make, which for most of us is necessary. I’m definitely going to need the paperback of this book. Because I’m going to be trying so many of these recipes! My mouth was watering just reading the recipes. I absolutely loved getting to go back to some of my favourite Rough Rider characters. AJ & Cord were always my favourite so I loved getting to see them. This series was a favorite when it came out. So I liked reading the different snippets of different couples and their lives. All were great, but the best one was Boone and Sierra, mostly due to the lesson that Boone learned. A close second and it's a toss up between Keely and AJ, loved what Keely realized in the middle and loved how AJ made her mark on the committee. This series was a favorite when it came out. I was so excited all those months ago when it was announced that this book was coming out, I pre-ordered it immediately. I LOVE anything about the McKay Family. These wonderful short stories giving a slice of life of some of our favorite characters from this wonderful series. We get to catch up with Cord and AJ in Cupcake Up. Car I was so excited all those months ago when it was announced that this book was coming out, I pre-ordered it immediately. I LOVE anything about the McKay Family. These wonderful short stories giving a slice of life of some of our favorite characters from this wonderful series. We get to catch up with Cord and AJ in Cupcake Up. It's a story about Cord, AJ and sweet Kyler within the first year of Cord & AJ's marriage. Carter & Macie in Grilled Hard. Carter & Macie are expecting their third child. Carter is on the cusp on success with his art career. Colby & Channing in Long Hard Boil. We see them together after 15 years of marriage and 5 kids, this is a few months after Channing suffered a miscarriage and right upon her 40th Birthday. Keely & Jack in All Jammed Up. We see Keely in a jam and having fun with her 4 kids. Colt & India in Recipe for Trouble. They have been married for a while and have their 3 kids. India is in an artistic rut and Colt knows exactly what to do. Boone & Sierra in Unbreak My Dishes. This story picks up right after their book ends. In Cupcake Up has AJ going to a meeting for SPAT (Sundance Parents Assisting Teachers) and let's just say a lot of those women were not very friendly and try to put AJ in her place, we all know this will not sit well with her. We find out Cord's fan club is a wee bit jealous he married AJ. Kyler is crazy about his Mom and she is just as smitten with Kyler. AJ certainly makes an impression without ruffling too many feathers and gets her point across. In Grilled Hard Both Macie and Carter get exciting news on the same day. Sweet Macie, pregnant with baby #3 finds out "The Last Chance Diner" is going to be featured on Triple D. Carter sweetly holds off telling her his exciting news about a huge commission he's been awarded. I'm not gonna lie when the food Waffle Fry Sliders came up, I wanted to make and try them. In Long Hard Boil Colby and Channing have been married about 15 years and have 5 kids. Channing recently suffered a miscarriage. AJ, India and Domini pay a visit to Colby and tell him they are having a Ladies Only 40th Birthday Party for Channing. Not gonna lie this story got me all in the feels, when the women talk about children and pregnancies I cried a few tears. In All Jammed Up Keely has waited to the last minute to make jam. She's called all her sister in laws and either they or her smart a$$ brothers all have many puns, which were all hysterical and tell her she's on her own. She enlists the help of her 4 kids and hilarity ensues. Jack comes to the rescue in more ways than one. In Recipe for Trouble we catch up with Colt and India. They have their 3 kids and have been married for a while as well. India is feeling stifled in her creativity. Colt knowing her so well set up a meeting between India and Carter which helps her so much knowing she'd not the only one that has a kink in the creativity flow. In Unbreak My Dishes this picks up where Unbreak My Heart finished up. Boone ignores Sierra's many warnings about rushing things and he ends up breaking several dishes. What this poor man goes through to not be caught is so funny, but Sierra knows with just a glance something is not right. The poor guy goes through hell, but it's hilarious. Each story is sweet and you can still see the love that is there regardless how long or short of a time these couples have been married. I cannot wait to try several of the recipes in the book and then the cocktails. Slutty Mermaid I'm looking for you! I love anything and everything McKay and from Lorelei James. You will enjoy each and every slice of life in this book.

Welcome back to our favourite couples in the Rough Rider series and with a bonus, recipes what could be better in a book. This book offers an insight into our favourite couples, some just after the wedding or years down the line, some are funny, some thoughtful but in each story it still shows the same passion to melt the most cold heart. My favourite stories were lets face it all of them, the first one sees AJ and Cord just after they have got marriage and AJ is getting involved within the school Welcome back to our favourite couples in the Rough Rider series and with a bonus, recipes what could be better in a book. This book offers an insight into our favourite couples, some just after the wedding or years down the line, some are funny, some thoughtful but in each story it still shows the same passion to melt the most cold heart. My favourite stories were lets face it all of them, the first one sees AJ and Cord just after they have got marriage and AJ is getting involved within the school committees because Ky wants "his Mom" involved but AJ is not prepared for the backlash. The next story up is Macie and Carter and just before Carter blew up as a famous artist in his own right. It's brilliant to see the relationship and just how he can show his softer side with this story. With the next you see a confident Indy falter in her confidence and when Colt know just what to do it is a lovely insight into there fiery relationship but understand not all people show there vulnerable side to just anyone. The way Colt understands he can't help her but enlists Carter to talk to her just shows the devotion these characters have to each other. (I know they aren't real but let me dream). Another story looks at Colby and Channing with the devastation of a miscarriage and the tenderness Colby has for her to come around on her own but always being there as a shoulder to cry on. Then I absolutely burst out laughing at Keely's story it was so typically Keeley but it opened up the relationship between her and the kids and that Jack is just as GQ as ever but the puns where brilliant, I recon you could have put more in and it would still have been hilarious. The last story involves the newest couple and this is a moral to telling the truth is always the best way. Boon and Sierra story revolves around wedding china and the creative way Boon tries to hide the error he has made. This just shows that it can be an expensive mistake. I love anything that is related to these wonderful characters and its great to get a bonus from there lives. My heartache is that there were not more short story, can't wait to read more but we are always greedy wanting more all the time. I will just have to re-read the series to get my fill.

I loved visiting again with the beloved McKays from the Rough Riders series. I especially enjoyed the glimpse at the different couples with kids. These short stories range from light-hearted family fun to addressing serious issues. My two favorite stories (I couldn’t pick just one!) were All Jammed Up and Recipe for Trouble. Note the creative story names, which had me laughing! In All Jammed Up, Keely making jam with her little ones was precious and reminded me of the importance of spending qual I loved visiting again with the beloved McKays from the Rough Riders series. In All Jammed Up, Keely making jam with her little ones was precious and reminded me of the importance of spending quality time with our kids. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it’s about the experience and memories. And, all the puns in the story were hilarious! In Recipe for Trouble, I could relate to Indy so much as she struggled with her career issues. Colt proved again why he’s my favorite McKay with how he helped Indy by empowering her. I can’t wait to try these recipes. All of them sound delicious! The Flank Steak Philly Steak with the Buffaloed Brussels Sprouts are at the top of my list. I will definitely give the drink recipes a try too. Rough Rider fans are in for a treat!

5 Stars This fun cookbook compiles amazing recipes with short stories from some of our favorite Rough Riders! This snippet of 6 couples is a great taste, but I have to admit, this fan of the Rough Riders series would love more check ins with ALL these sexy, fun couples. Lorelei James has set each short story at a different point in the original series. She gives readers a Foreward that lets us know the timing of each story in relation to the original couple’s book. Lorelei James has set each short story at a different point in the original series. She gives readers a Foreward that lets us know the timing of each story in relation to the original couple’s book. Each peek into their lives stays true to each end every couple end personality trait they have. These stories really do fit seamlessly into the original line up of books. I truly hope she decides to give fans a compilation of more short stories from more of our favorite McKays...and Wests! Cara - Alphas Do It Better Book Blog

Not only did this book give us some insight into some of our favourite McKay relationships, it also has some yummy, easy to make, recipes that I am dying to try out! Spanning from the beginnings, to the middles, later on, and current, we get to see snippets of how things in everyday life happened with our beloved couples. What they did when they were starting out, how they coped with regular everyday life, and how they handled troubles that came their way. I loved every second of the stories and drooled over some of the food that will be in my belly so soon 😊
