While I was reading this collection, my mind was singing "I need somebody who can love me at my worst...." And that too the you-know-who's version 💟 Exactly for Rupi Kaur's readers! You will not be disappointed with this collection. It's that this feels like the younger version of Rupi Kaur's poetry collection. The lines are genuine and, no doubt, you will feel connected to the written words as soon as you start reading them. Go for this collection. The nostalgia hits you right. ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley. Sometimes fate is kind enough to deliver what I like to call "'Right book at the right time." So, for the record, here's my note of thanks to the universe for this one. I was in sore need of it. I was quite surprised to find myself getting teary eyed at multiple points in this book. It wasn't until I finished the very last sentence of the acknowledgements that the tears fell and I felt a near cathartic release. Relief. This read like relief. Like a conversation with someone who knows you, gets you, truly understands you. Someone who puts their phone away as soon as you sit down because there's nothing on there that could be more interesting that anything you could have to say. What an absolute breath of fresh air in a genre that has long started to feel oversaturated and often derivative and even performative.

I am learning that this is not about me This is about you I am healed, I am whole I am enough You are in pieces You are broken You need healing on your own - stop trying to break me too I read this book in one day and even though I don’t read that many poetry books, I liked this one. But (there’s always a but, huh?) something was missing, something wasn’t right to me. But I can’t really explain it. I keep shouting who am I Into the void The echo screams back Whoever you want to be

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley. I enjoyed reading this book so much! I was so surprised when I read a poem regarding astrology, which is a subject I truly love -- happy to know that the author is also a scorpio sun. Every poem is full of emotion and beautifully written. She's very talented and I'm glad I chose this book. The illustrations throughout the book are also beautiful. This little book of poems is divided into four sections generally by theme and chronological order. For the most part, I really enjoyed these poems! What a wonderful collection of poetry. This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I liked how the poetry was set up in four different sections. This poet definitely has a way with words as each poem flowed so well with a clear message. I really liked her poems about not being able to get over past relationships and I feel like these poems will relate to many people. I’m definitely going to read her other books of poetry. Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC.

ARC given by NetGalley for Honest Review [2.5 rounded up] Please Love Me at My Worst is a collection of short form poetry and prose focusing on learning to love yourself before others. Fans of Amanda Lovelace and Rupi Kaur will enjoy this book. I wasn't overly moved by any of the poems mostly because a lot of them were very similar to others I've read before. There was nothing new to move me or make me think "wow that's really deep". I wasn't upset by my read, but I wasn't thrilled either. Poetry that speaks.... There is something about Angemeer's poetry that speaks directly to me. Aside from the commonality of human experience, it is as tho our souls have met across time and space. As in her previous books, she writes of loss, rejection, love, and loneliness in a way that resonates. This is what true poetry was meant to be. Poetry that speaks.... I thought I'd be able to read PLEASE LOVE ME AT MY WORST in one sitting, but it ended up being five or six. There were MULTIPLE poems that had me in tears, and I needed to take a break to feel my feelings, as my therapist would say. It honestly felt like some poems were written specifically for me–like someone reached out to my inner child and told her exactly what she needed to hear. This collection is the biggest, warmest hug for anyone who has ever felt alone, not good enough, not worthy of love, and/or confused about who they truly are. It takes all those feelings and reminds you that you absolutely are enough, and you're strong enough to be your truest self. Whether you're a fan of her previous work, or new to poetry, check out this collection. It's straight and to the point, and full of raw, honest emotions. I've already pre-ordered a finished copy and am so excited to reread it and make notes for myself. Working on ourselves has always been THE achievement, THE goal, and it is always a great feeling to find words of support and encouragement, even better when they are put together this beautifully. Some of the poems were too short to pass a message, too quick a read to make an impact. However, these few poems did not take away much of the poetry collection's worth and performance. The collection feels like a good and open conversation with yourself, the one we always want to do but are scared of it. And it is always a good idea to have one: loving yourself is paramount.

I always struggled with modern poetry and finding ones that are different from what's already out there, but "Please Love Me at My Worst" did that. Most are about lost relationships and struggling alone, but Angeemer was able to connect this to childhood, friendships, familial relationships in a universal but specific way. Each poem felt personal but relatable and I know so many people in my life that could benefit and relate to this collection so much. I liked this poetry collection more the further I got into the book. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy it, but I ended up doing just that. There were a lot of poems I recognized myself in, I love feeling that recognization in poetry books. I think Angemeer did a great job in putting down her feelings and experiences into words. I will definitely check out Angemeer’s other poetry books.

I really enjoyed this poetry novel. It also really helped me get out of a reading slump after I tried 3 other books. Poetry is most likely going to be my go to for reading slumps. The poetry in this was done really well. It reminds the reader that they are valid in a world full of criticism and judgement. It also reminds the reader to simply love themselves and take good care of themself. I highly recommend this :)
