From the very first chapter, the story pulled me in. Initially I was trying to figure out how the family in the RV, man driving and foster kid all tied together. As the story progressed, I found my answers. This is a story about a mysterious green light that mesmerizes people and ultimately causes their deaths. It's also a story about Nell, who grew up trying to deal with life as a foster child. Nell is different and the reader learns more about her and what makes her different. I hope they are in future books in this series. I received a free ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.

A bright green light people are drawn to. A foster child with a unique gift is immune to the light. Hux is a man with silver eyes tracking the light. Can the light be stopped? Intense page turner.

A cinematic, ethereal horror Into the Dread Void is officially my favourite horror novel of all time. This novel had the best elements of HP Lovecraft and Stephen King stories, while maintaining a wild, unruly originality. I could not peel my eyes away from the pages. Her friend doesn't think that will happen and while she's glad for Nell, she's sad and jealous. Nell and her new family are going to their cabin, along with C.J.'s parents. C.J. is Nell's new foster dad, Kacy is her new mom and Julie is their daughter. Nell is anxious about the cabin visit and meeting the elder parents of C.J., and while she is warmly welcomed by the elder mom, the elder dad seems a bit standoffish. Nell is also afraid to tell them all that she cannot swim. This gets rectified on the first day when Julie makes the announcement to her parents, and everyone begins to teach Nell how to swim. Things go downhill when a storm arrives, Julie goes outside in search of her phone, and a big green light outside changes the personality of everyone outdoors. Some strange alien form is feeding off humans and killing them. This supernatural thing is out to get everyone in it's path. Nell finds her special gift for calming people, also works against this alien force, however, she has to be touching the person affected for it to work. She soon finds that saving her new, happy family will be her biggest obstacle, along with saving herself. Thankfully, there's another force that is working for good. The giant's name is Hux and it's his job to go into the Dread Void when alien forces penetrate our world. His silver eyes and hands, plus his overall huge size, and magic abilities are soon welcomed by a terrified Nell.

Okay, so this book has been on my radar for a while, and now that I have finally read it, I can now kick myself for not reading it sooner. It has all my favorite things: -Eldritch abominations? She is a great yet flawed young protagonist who really doesn't deserve the horrible life she's been handed. Then there's Hux, who reminds me a lot of the Inspector from the Neverglades series (seriously, reading his segments made me itch for the Neverglades; if you haven't read/listened to that, you SHOULD). Hux is amazing, and he is one of the rare example of AWESOME powers feeling like a real curse instead of a gift. My only issue is that this book is really short. I have a feeling all the books in the series might "add up" to being one normal sized book, but I mean...that certainly isn't gonna stop me from reading all of them all at once. More books for my reading challenge, I guess. TLDR: This is a fast paced cosmic horror adventure with wonderful characters and some terrifying creatures. What more could you want? Also, there is an adorable dog named Howard. If you, like me, spend the ENTIRETY of a horror book in which a dog is present feeling terrified and anxious about the dog's safety, here is the outcome: (view spoiler)[THE DOG LIVES!!! We are also introduced to a teenage foster kid named Nell who seems to have found a great foster family. The family takes her on a camping trip to the family cabin and things go bad from there. We discover that Nel has the ability to calm people down with a touch, but she is also immune to the call of the green light, and she can break a person's trance if she touches them. This is certainly a page-turner. You can't help yourself getting attached to Nell, at first as she struggles with the life of a foster kid, then as she cautiously hopes this family might be the one, and then as she fights to save her new family from the evil that lives behind the light. The supernatural aspects of this book are less about the paranormal, and more about a scientifically plausible explanation, but nonetheless still dangerous and frightening. The book was well written, the main characters well developed. The story was compelling, enough so that I am looking forward to book number 2. This book was not a cliffhanger, but clearly, the story isn't finished. Great book.

Hux, a not quite human with the ability to travel between dimensions and vanquish the monsters therein, is called upon to kill a particularly vile multi-tentacled entity that consumes human souls to survive. A human girl, Nell, who has spent practically all her life in foster homes, becomes the focal point between Hux and the entity due to her possessing "cosmic traits" that can save other humans, such as those in her newly adoptive family, from the ruthless entity. Without giving away too much of the plot, Nell is drawn into the battle for her new family's lives between Hux and the entity. What follows is a dangerous and deadly fight that nearly drives her insane and almost kills Hux. The characters are all well developed, the plot becomes smooth, the prose is outstanding and the plot lines ultimately meld seamlessly. The ending chapters are abundantly horrific and heartwarming, with a teasing insight of future events. This is an author to watch out for in the near future! I am looking forward to reading the sequel. For fans who like their horror with many twisted turns, this book is for you!

This is a fast-paced human-as-prey cosmic horror novel. There are two things about this that make it stand out in my mind: First, the structure/order. Mr. Moss hooks you in at the start with the weird and paranormal bits of the story before stepping into the main narrative and introducing his protagonist, a 14-year old who has spent her life in the foster care system. Her alien foe is unfathomably powerful, and Nell and her (view spoiler)[unusual calming power (hide spoiler)] are hopelessly and impossibly outmatched. This works well with the "Lovecraftian" insanity-causing tentacle monsters from other dimensions. Abe Moss is setting the standard for this generation of horror literature. Into the Dread Void has a compelling story line with unique and relatable characters that you genuinely grow to care about as the story progresses. Abe Moss' books always draw you in from the start, and this one is no exception. The characters are very likeable, and the story has the usual twists and turns and surprises that this author is very good in doing in all of his books. A quick and easy read, but lacking in style or substance. Although it’s marketed as cosmic horror, it gives lip service to the genre and instead provides a form of urban fantasy with sci-fi trappings. It didn’t help that the references to witches and potions felt more fitting than the tacked-on “forbidden knowledge” elements. It also felt like a pilot episode of a tv show, and despite the criticism I gave I’d call it a successful pilot. Invasion of Malevolence Abe Moss has written another winner. A beautiful green light attracts people. It lures them to their deaths. Nell is very happy with her new foster parents - until they are killed by the dark entity who is fascinated by her. Unlike the others she does not fall prey to its attraction. She comes across Hux who is the only being who can fight this evil. This book was scary and a page turner.

Debbi loves to read I read this book in just one day. It’s one of those books that you just have to know what’s going to happen. All of the characters are very thoughtfully written. I have to admit there were times it had a little Men In Black vibe to me but I loved those movies also. As a reader who has read all of Stephen King some more than once I am glad to find a new author to satisfy my cravings for good books. Until next time happy reading.

A well written, mystery, Sci-Fi horror. Plenty of action, good storyline with likeable characters. An excellent start to the series. It's certainly peaked my curiosity and I'm looking forward to the next instalment. I received a review copy from the author and have voluntarily left an honest review.
