Near Dark meets The Craft. The plot could have used another pass through an editor as it all doesn't connect in places. Still, I'll take a supernatural road trip through a Southwest of witches and vampires anyday. Near Dark meets The Craft. A bunch of unlikable witches, witch hunters, and vampires drive around Texas and fight a lot, making enemy-of-my-enemy alliances and constantly shifting allegiances because of convenience, friendship or love. It wants to be madcap, with lots of action and humor, but I just found it a miserable and boring slog littered with annoying little things like musical suggestions for chapters and sound effects like A RUSHING DARKNESS, INTENSE SNIFFING, CHAIR SQUEEK, GLIMMER SPARKLE, STRUGGLING, and BOTTLE A bunch of unlikable witches, witch hunters, and vampires drive around Texas and fight a lot, making enemy-of-my-enemy alliances and constantly shifting allegiances because of convenience, friendship or love. Lousy plot, lousier dialogue, and mediocre art with coloring that's all over the place -- from murky to garish to drab.

Sight, I might get blasted for this but I didn't get engaged with any of the characters. The story of conflict and worldwide power plays between witches and vampires was meh. Maybe, what I missed was that this wasn't a feminist take on power. Because I kept expecting more storytelling towards women and how women manage power versus the same old men in power, men corrupting the world bit. This is probably about 2 1/2 stars for me though it gets an extra bonus because it has which is in it I know everybody knows me is rolling their eyes this story I just had a hard time getting into I don’t know why they should’ve been something I really enjoyed which is fighting evil vampires and then I have to team up to take down even evil vampire this shit been right up my alley though I just didn’t really like it for some odd reason the artwork was OK I guess this is the second book I’ve read This is probably about 2 1/2 stars for me though it gets an extra bonus because it has which is in it I know everybody knows me is rolling their eyes this story I just had a hard time getting into I don’t know why they should’ve been something I really enjoyed which is fighting evil vampires and then I have to team up to take down even evil vampire this shit been right up my alley though I just didn’t really like it for some odd reason the artwork was OK I guess this is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’m not really all that impressed I know that sounds harsh but it’s just my personal feeling

Okay okay. I had high hopes for this, but it ended up being ok. I LOVED the art, and how different the story was, but it felt….spread out???

Plot is a little wobbly, but I would read gibberish for Lisa Sterle’s art.

Honestly confused at a lot of the story points and felt like the story jumped around a lot with the lore only lightly touched on in each section. Because of that, I was having kind of a hard time tracking what was happening especially since there are time jumps. The art, though, is beautiful. Really reminds me of some of my other favorite artists like Leslie Hung from Snotgirl and also Jen Bartel. The premise was also just really cool of hex hunters, vampires, and witches and all these different Honestly confused at a lot of the story points and felt like the story jumped around a lot with the lore only lightly touched on in each section. Thought it was a really fun touch that they had soundtrack recommendations for some of the bigger chapters. All in all, a pretty fun ride but i wish we had a little more meat to the characters because this was def more plot driven than character driven.

Witchblood is a comic that wished I liked a lot more than I did as I think it had an interesting premise. The art was wonderful as well. In particular, I really found the colors to be super vibrant and gorgeous. However, the story and characters really brought down any enjoyment I found in the art. Both were not portrayed in an interesting way at all which is a shame. So much so, that I really only pushed myself to read this completely through only, because I enjoyed the art so much. the coloring was really nice :) and there were some pretty good panels but that's pretty much it the story was mediocre even tho the premise promised so much more. the characters were also very flat and the motivations behind their actions were never explained or flat out didn't make sense (which is a shame bc the character designs were very good). i mean it's an ok read but i wouldn't praise it or anything the coloring was really nice :) and there were some pretty good panels but that's pretty much it the story was mediocre even tho the premise promised so much more. the characters were also very flat and the motivations behind their actions were never explained or flat out didn't make sense (which is a shame bc the character designs were very good). i mean it's an ok read but i wouldn't praise it or anything

The art of this was really cool but I had to give up because I could not for the life of me figure out what was going on. I'm all about showing not telling, but when you're doing fantasy and post-apocalypse, you need to do a certain amount of telling because I could not focus on the characters when everything else was just plain confusing. The art is amazing, very beautiful. The story was okay, had a few gaps in it here and there. Some of the characters were just doing too much for me at some moments. And the vampires were annoying especially the leader. But for the art alone ill give the three stars. Just a okay story.

The betrayal when Paxton killed his brother was heartbreaking! He’s totally lost himself. I’m looking forward to volume two!!!!

Lots of fun, great art style. Some places felt a bit rushed and there are parts I wish gave us more context. But a great read for any witch or vampire fan.
