I could have stayed in a hotel room with him for a year and never wanted to leave. Content to bask in the glow of his warm flesh. all they’d done is kiss😭 ...while River was getting a blow job from a woman FOR AN HOUR! and the way they conversed during it was casual af as if River didn’t have his dick out and in a prostitute’s mouth was wild. kinda funny, honestly. but then, their dialogue once they started speaking threw me off. they both (but River especially), spoke like a Victorian upper-class gentleman. all he needed was sideburns and a cane, and the man was the protagonist of a Dickens’ novel. “What a conundrum” “Drats, I was at risk of being rude to the poor girl doing her job” “while one's dick was in one's hand” “Pardon me, I wasn't trying to give offense. I was merely—” “When was the last time you ate? You look dastardly.” “Isn’t this how one gets to know someone, or perhaps my fame has jaded me?” “Your words have merit. I’m not disagreeing, but last night was the exception not the rule. Not my usual practice.” and don’t get me started on the way Iris, River’s best friend, spoke. he was like Heathcliff, Hamlet and Darcy rolled into one... basically a Byronic emo on steroids. i do enjoy some waxing of poetics when it’s a) within the inner monologue and not overly used, and b) not used in the dialogue. bcos seriously, no one talks like that. it just makes the conversations sound pretentious and stilted. and it was actually pretty difficult at times to decipher who was talking when Emory and River were having a conversation— not only did they sound really similar with their poetic speech, but the author did a poor job signalling who was actually speaking. like there’d be dialogue in quotations... and i struggled to figure out which one of them it was coming from. i will say, the poetic dirty talk was new? and i kinda vibed with it? it was pretty fun to read bcos it was so different. but the unprotected sex after they had just met... was not a vibe. like they legit couldn’t be arsed to stand up and go into a separate room to grab a condom so forgo using one😭 y’all just met!! and there was zero prep. just a raw, dry arsehole. yummy. so i just had to stop at the sex scenes bcos they were just... weird lol.

He was art." J.R. Gray is a new-to-me author and what a fabulous first read Pretty Obsessed was 💜💙. This is steamy, romantic, angsty, story telling - and I was totally here for it 🖤. River is a drummer in a hugely famous band - and not what you'd expect of a rockstar. He's bi, but has kept his private life private, partly on account of his status as 'Rock God'. Emory is a very successful writer, he's gay and out. And when they meet, the connection is instantaneous, full of chenistry, passionate and totally HOT 😈. The band is full of totally captivating characters too and I can't wait to follow each of their stories. I love it when the secondary characters bring so much to the story. Several tough topics, so check out the author's TW. This is not your standard rockstar romance. Go read it. Highly recommended. 4 steamy ✨✨✨✨

Whoa that was quite good. I did feel like Iris's depression stole the show more than Emory and River though and he wasn't even a main character. And I'd have loved to know how that conversation at the end had gone down, in fact I was actually looking forward to it but well. One thing I'm not looking forward to is Iris and Cas' story if they have one. I mean, I loved Iris and all but I really think he needs someone better, preferably someone from outside the band. River is pumped to be a rockstar, but it’s more isolating than he thought it would be and he craves companionship and intimate touch. He thinks going to a sex club is filling this need, but River realizes he doesn’t want to be touched by just anybody and his experience with Emory has him craving more. The blurb suggests that it takes time for River to track down Emory, but he finds him the next day (on two separate occasions) and it really doesn’t play that much into the story. I'd like to start by feverishly applauding our girl Lavender for her contributions to the first chapter of this book. Honey, you earned that big tip River left you, even if it wasn't you that brought things to a finish. Now got get yourself some Advil for your jaw and chase it down with a gallon of water. You must be parched. This book drove me crazy. Most of the time I wanted to scream at both Emory and River. Drama caused by a lack of communication is such a dependable plot device, but it gets old after awhile. I'm forgiving of it for the most part because I realize there has to be something keeping the relationship from being perfect at first, but it is so frustrating when you know one mature conversation would clear everything up. I understood both of their hang-ups, I really did, but it could have been easily resolved with words since the actions were already there. Despite the communication infraction, I really liked this book. The way River and Emory met was really hot. Actually, the whole book was really hot. The MoMA scene alone was...whew! There was so much on page sex, which can sometimes feel like too much but didn't in this book for some reason. Maybe I was just in the right mood for it. And it was offset by so much sweetness. These men were very caring towards one another and the people around them. I loved how River looked after his best friend, Iris, and how Emory not only accepted their closeness, but also formed his own bond with the troubled lead singer. I don't know if the next book is about Iris, but I hope it is. He came dangerously close to stealing the show in this one. I also loved the power dynamic between River and Emory. Even though Emory kept granting River ownership over him, it was in a way that didn't relinquish his own power over himself. It was very "take what you want because no matter what it is you want, I want it too", rather than any kind of subservience. Other than not being great at communicating, they were mostly on the same page and could not for the life of them keep their hands off each other. They were also very respectful of each other and understanding in regards to the demands of their careers. Emory was probably a little too respectful of what he thought River needed, but if they'd just talked about things... This book may have also had a bit of a backstory issue; specifically a shortage of it. There was some talk of dads, but no moms or siblings. River didn't curse, but I never really knew why. He also spoke in a way that made me think he was British at one point, but then he said he was born and raised in Chicago so I guess not. There was also a lot of emphasis on River's friend group, but Emory's poor friend Octavius was mostly overlooked (maybe he'll be in a future book?). It wasn't a big deal, just questions that came up as I was reading. Overall I enjoyed reading this story and loved the characters and am super excited about Pretty Toxic. I'm dying to know who it's about.

Emory and River are hot as fire and sweet as sugar. These two are definitely something. The writer and the rockstar have an instant connection at a sex club of all places…who goes to a sex club to focus and work as a writer?…Emory does. River becomes absolutely obsessed with Emory and has to be with him whenever he can. These two agree to a friends with benefits kind of arrangement and have some pretty steamy times. I just wish they would have talked a little more. It’s a good book and worth the Emory and River are hot as fire and sweet as sugar. These two are definitely something. The relationship River has with the rest of his band was also intriguing. The guys in the band needed to sit down and realize that forcing your wants and wishes on someone, even when part of it is in their best interests, is not the right thing to do. I love how by the end of the book, they have it all mostly worked out. I wouldn’t mind seeing Iris get his own happy ending at some point either.

Wow! This book was everything and I am Obsessed with Emory and River, even if I was silently yelling at them to use their words for half the book LOL These two had amazing chemistry, even from the first super awkward introduction. I love how fiercely they wanted and needed each other, and how they managed to fit into each other's worlds. This book left me happy and gooey, even Wow! When the two come in contact it’s the beginning of a relationship that covers friendship, lust, love and insecurities. Both characters are so likable and the author did a great job of developing them and describing them I felt I could see into their lives. The flow of this story is constant. The ups and downs of trying to address everyday issues is pretty steamy and heartwarming. The secondary characters were involved enough to make me want to know more about them. I hated having this story end. I will be watching for the next in the series.

River Wade is a rockstar a drummer and he meets Emory in a sex club where Emory is a best selling author and loves to write at the club. It’s not just a typical sex club where the mc is a playboy and constantly goes. He craves intimacy. He is touch starved and hardly partakes in any of his body’s cravings. He yearns for a connection with another body skin on skin. I dont want to give away too much but when they first kiss its explosive and they swallow each others gasps and then Emory disappears. Obsessed is not just about obsession. Yes he has a mild obsession with Emory but its more like he’s so smitten and already so emotionally invested in this stranger. I just cant stress enough how amazingly written this book was. I’ve never read a book from this author but he/she/them are so talented i would never say this about any other author. I’ve read typical tropes that meet my criteria but this one just blew my mind. It was lyrical, it was beautiful, it was intimate. The passion and intimacy was so well done. I just loved this book to death and its definitely one of my favorites! Read it now and u wont be disappointed!!!!!! Thank u so much JR Gray for sharing this book with us. I am now going on a marathon of his books!!!!!

Bi-awakening, instant attraction developing into more, intensity and chemistry, vulnerability and weight of the past, multidimensional MCs, engaging storytelling. I loved how Emory and River slowly opened up to each other sharing pieces of themselves, how sex was not the only thing that connected them. At the same time I wish they talked about their true feelings and wants sooner. The story felt dragged at times. Still, I was fully immersed in it and want more of this world and the characters. But Emory has been hurt before, and runs before River can talk properly to him. There follows what can be best described as a love story that flows around the world! Oh I loved this, and I might gush in my review, so I'm sorry but I bloody loved it! River was catapulted to fame and is living the high life. I loved that he wasn't giving in to all the vices that usually come with stardom for young men. I understood his need to let loose from time to time, even his choice of vice is fully understandable once you get the whole picture of River. Emory is equally famous, but less in the limelight. Several best selling books under his belt and he knows he needs this latest book to be finished. He was hurt before, and takes time to let River into his heart. Emory lets River in his physical space very quickly and is surprised how well they work in that space, given what Emory's ex was like when he was working. What I especially liked about this was it takes time for both River AND Emory to tell us their full stories, you know? You get some hints, very quickly, about Emory first then River, but not enough to fully paint the picture you need, or I didn't. It all comes out, but I loved that it took TIME. Emory and River are explosive together, and I loved that the passion they have burns bright and hot through the book. River's band mates are an interesting bunch. Iris especially. And he is why I've tagged this over 18 and darker/grittier. There is much talk about Iris' coping methods (or NOT coping as the case may be) here, and how he came to be using those methods. And at one point I wasn't sure about Iris and his book. But he does get a book, I asked Gray! Gotta wait til the last book in the series, and I reckon I've got 4 more books to read before then! Alright, I'll wrap up. Expect a beautifully written love story, that is not all light and fluffy but it really is a cute read, once you filter out the band mates drama and focus on River and Emory. 5 full and shiny stars! *same worded review will appear elsewhere*

River was so honest about many things with Emory but held back on things that might have made both of them happier sooner. In the end, I was pleased that they found a way to make their careers and lives fit together. I was also glad to see River understanding himself better and realizing he couldn't carry everything. I loved how supportive Emory was for not only River but Iris as well. Iris, the lead singer of Pretty Broken and River's best friend, is complex and struggling. I wasn't sure how I felt about Emory and River at first, but their connection grew on me as their journey progressed. I'm personally not a big fan of the insta-love genre, but despite the somewhat unrealistic nature of River and Emory's initial attraction, I found the growth of their relationship refreshingly realistic. Developing an emotional connection is tough for any new couple, but for a famous rockstar and a best-selling author there was a whole added dimension of complexity. Developing an emotional connection is tough for any new couple, but for a famous rockstar and a best-selling author there was a whole added dimension of complexity. I'm glad this author chose to dive into the challenges of two busy, successful people being together,  and it was fascinating to get a behind-the-scenes look at what musicians and authors have to go through each day. I've never had to question whether someone wanted to be with me for my fame, and though it made me sad to see the walls Emory kept up to keep his heart safe I also completely understood why he felt it was necessary. For me, the passion and chemistry he had with River was obviously unrelated to social status, but it was captivating to follow along the twists and turns as the two of them figured it out for themselves. Along the way I loved getting to know the rest of River's band, and I can tell they have some juicy stories of their own to tell. Best of all, this book was packed with deliciously steamy, filthy, hot-as-heck sex. River and Emory shared their emotional connection through touch, and I've never been so happy to devour each and every expression of love. **I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

This is my first time reading J.R. Gray and I can absolutely say that I will be reading more of his work. Pretty Obsessed is an amazing Rockstar Romance where two people find friendship and true love. I loved the way J.R. brought River Wade and Emory Ker in the most unlikely location. River is the drummer for the chart-topping band Pretty Obsessed and Emory is a best-selling author these two are as opposite as two people can be. As their story unfolds it is equal parts true love and hot sex. If yo This is my first time reading J.R. Gray and I can absolutely say that I will be reading more of his work. The Rockstar and the Writer! I loved the blurb and was excited to read about the Rockstar and the writer. I really liked Emory and River. They were both very grounded, both craving connection, both struggling to overcome things from their past. I am not normally a fan of insta-lust but it worked here right from the start when they first met at the club.  It was immediate, it was SAF, and it sucked me in right away. I was really invested in their story.  Their was a lot of steam in this book, at first it really worked, was very erotic, and very intimate. Then it became a little too much. I wanted them to jump into bed less and talk more. I found myself skimming some of it to get to more conversation as they tried to determine their future together.  That initial connection I felt in the beginning between them dwindled a bit with their inability to just talk to each other about what they wanted. I also really liked Iris and the deep friendship he and River had, but Iris was in the book a lot and I felt I ended up knowing more about his past and demons than I did about River and Emory. River and Emory do get their HEA but for such a long book it did feel a little rushed at the end. I am very intrigued by the band members and anxious to see who book 2 will be about!

Let me start by saying I hate writing a review where I didn't connect with a book, because I believe opinions are just that, and my opinion shouldn't mean shit to anyone. Who am I? I can barely compose an email, more less write a book. (which is why I work with numbers) So my truth is, this book could have been a book about Iris. I felt like we got River's world and not so much of Emory's. However, this is my 3rd book by this author and the first two I absolutely loved. Would highly recommend, The Friendship Equation and May the Best Man Win and I will be reading Pretty Toxic because I think that will be Iris's book. Anyway, there you have it.

4.5 Stars Pretty Obsessed is a hot standalone romance by JR Gray. It starts off with a semi-hot moment in a sex club, as Emory, a writer, meets River, a rocker. I have to say, the way they meet, with Emory at a sex club to write, is hysterical and totally unique. From the start, the dynamics between Emory and River is intense and all consuming. The two want each other bad. And won't let anything stand in their way. Their story is hot, with plenty of steamy scenes. I mean hot damn! Both men are intriguing, with some painful layers, and plenty of reasons to be the way they are. But, together, the closeted bisexual rock star and the walled off author, are able to heal each other. The writing is great, with a sensual feeling and intense emotions. The entire story is full of passion, as well as emotion. Pretty Obsessed is the perfect choice the next time you're in the mood for a steamy read. JR Gray doesn't ever give us a break from the passion. It's well worth your time.

DNFing at 48% because I’m barely halfway and all the characters do is have s3x and there is really nothing else plot wise. Now I’m all for a steamy read but I also want communication because without it issues arise-which is what it seems like happens through the rest I skimmed, along with more s3x of course.

So many gorgeous, gorgeous lines. I told Gray my kindle was looking like it was entirely highlighted. Lovely, complicated rock star and tentative but seductive novelist make for spicy reading. Love.

The title says it all. This was a fast moving book, as far as relationship development. Two guys meet at an adult club, where only one of them is there for the distractions, while the other is there to work. From a kiss, River develops an obsession for Emory that quickly grows into more. Both characters have issues and demands on them from friends and occupations, but even those quickly fade into the background as the two men become entwined with each other. There was a distinct lack of dialog in the book between the main characters – things just happened. There definitely could have been some additional exploration and build-up between the two of them, but the lack also shows how obsession works, so maybe it was intentional. Good read.

Must read Wow this book is amazing. You think it would be weird having a guy getting all obsessed and stuff but it didn't feel like that one bit. It feels right from the start that River and Emory are just soul mates. I was hooked on first start to finished😍 Must read Wow this book is amazing. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I did not like this book like I thought I would. I frowned the whole time while reading it☹ I did not connect with the characters. The side characters Cas and Iris were more entertaining than the main characters. River and Emory were boring. The only conflict they had was wanting to be more than friends with benefits but not saying 🙄😒 Ready for Cas and Iris toxic ass relationship instead😬
