Their backstories added to the plot, and I enjoyed seeing them grow as the book went on. Language: Maybe a not-so-reverent use of God's name. Moral/theme: This novel contained themes of God's love and trusting God. Both of these themes came into play more in the second half of the book. Plot: Susan May Warren's books normally have lots of action/adventure, suspense, and world travel. This one was no exception, and I loved it. Definitely a fast read! I did think Ranger wasn't as affected by his injuries as he should've been at some points, but that's a minor complaint. Romance: Clean. Just kissing. The characters did want to do more than kiss because there was that marriage-of-convenience plot. But I thought those parts were handled well, and they didn't make me uncomfortable. Writing: There's just something about Susan May Warren's writing that I really enjoy. Her style is laid back, smooth, and fast paced; but she's also great at describing the setting. She inspires me to keep improving my own writing style! Overall: Sunburst was an exciting read, and I'd recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction, romantic suspense, and action/adventure novels.

Escaping from Nigeria with their lives intact will take every possible move this former Seal has learned. This book provides nonstop exciting action to get out of many perilous situations. I really enjoyed learning about the Nigerian culture, foods, customs, languages and descriptions of the area . So many , how can they get out of that situation moments. With the danger Noemi has following her is it possible for their marriage of convenience to actually turn into the real thing before one of them gets hurt? Contains faith based messages that she weaves into all of her books. Excellent! Highly Recommended! Pub Date 07 Jun 2022 I was given a complimentary copy of this book. When a good book friend tells me to read a book, I pay attention, even though I'm behind in Susan May Warren's books. I did read the first one in this Sky Ranch series but I have gaping holes in previous books and some of those characters feature here in Ranger and Noemi's story. Not enough that I lost the plot, more like I felt a bit sulky because I've been missing out. lol If you like adventure notched up to the nth degree with an ex-Navy SEAL hero and an equally as tough heroine then Sunburst When a good book friend tells me to read a book, I pay attention, even though I'm behind in Susan May Warren's books. Not enough that I lost the plot, more like I felt a bit sulky because I've been missing out. lol If you like adventure notched up to the nth degree with an ex-Navy SEAL hero and an equally as tough heroine then Sunburst is definitely the book for you. Especially if you enjoy a side of toe-curling romance along with all that danger and intrigue! Oh, and you have to be a fan of having your tummy twisted into knots and your heart bludgeoned all in the name of true love. :-) And the situations Susan May Warren puts her characters through! These poor, tortured souls! I winced and groaned and gritted my teeth and reminded myself to b-r-e-a-t-h-e. Deliciously excruciating. Love the Kingston clan -- the brotherly antics, the way they have each other's back even after the hard things that have happened in the past. Mending broken relationships with a father who has never stopped praying for each one of his sons. And the wise counsel he shares at pivotal times. "You asked how I know everything is going to be okay. The answer is because every time my world gets darker, I see God more." An action-packed page-turner rich in culture and diversity...and humour! I forgot to mention the humour and how it crops up at the most surprising times. Lovely way to cut through some of that tension...and keep a reader off-balance 'cause she never knows what's coming next. The kind of reading experience that leaves you feeling bereft when it's finally over... Only it's really not over. Warren has included a sucker-punch of an epilogue that segues into Colt's story and it can't release fast enough for me!

I loved this story and did not want it to end. It is book two in the series and could probably be enjoyed on its own, especially during the sequences that take place in Africa. When the focus moves to Alaska, characters and situations from book one, Sunrise, are woven into the story, as well. This underlying Alaskan storyline continues from book one, through a bit of book two, and looks like it will conclude in book three. The Nigerian family and wedding scenes were full of heart, emotion, and some sweetly humorous moments! I loved the way Noemi’s family brought her back into their fold and the enthusiasm with which they planned and held the wedding. The chemistry between Ranger and Noemi was simply beautiful, while also highlighting that these two both carried broken hearts from their past time together. There were flashbacks to show what had happened between the two and help the reader feel an even deeper connection between them. And just as I was thinking that all these two would have to overcome were decisions made in the past, the author threw in a great twist that I didn’t see coming! It was perfect and I love when an author can surprise me with something like this. I loved this book from start to finish and I definitely agree with Dodge and Ranger that Nigerian weddings count! She is a new favorite author, and I can’t wait for the next book in the Series, Sundown, to release in November this year! Sunburst is the story of former Navy SEAL (and bachelor) Ranger Kingston and Noemi Sutton. While their relationship was short lived for 2 weeks in Florida and they didn’t expect to see each other again, what they go through in Nigeria brings them closer than close and realizing this is a relationship for the long haul. Ranger goes to Nigeria trying to save his brother Colt from terrorists, but quickly realizes Noemi was also taken hostage and everything takes off from there – trying to escape Nigeria alive. This book is so engaging for readers – it keeps you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning with the hostage situation all the way through trying to escape and even in the aftermath. The romance was very complex – we see glimpses of their 2 week relationship together and why they were no longer together. The only reasons I gave this 4.5 instead of 5: I was frustrated at times with the “will they” or “won’t they” thing. Additionally, I am not always a fan of the "just met, dated a couple weeks, falling in love" thing, but honestly, I forgave it because they literally went through SO much in Nigeria and afterwards that I see why they fell in love so fast. They are so protective and strong with each other - it's amazing. I also can’t leave out how amazing the setting and culture was in this story. The wedding, food, scenery and characters were all beautiful and full of depth. As far as Faith content, this has some great points. Both main characters struggle with their faith journey in a very realistic way and God continued to be with them throughout it all. I also LOVE the faith discussions at the end. The ending to this was also so STRONG! So much happened! I was turning pages so fast and on the edge of my seat and it ending on another cliffhanger -- dying for the next book! Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for providing a free advanced reader copy for me to honestly read and review. I am so grateful to have read this book and can't wait for the next one.

SO MUCH STORY. . . . told with an underlying passion and enough creative energy for two books, possibly even three, which for a seasoned author, was remarkably refreshing. True confession? I might have read the ending more than once. "I will find you."

“‘And hello, maybe you’re exactly where you are supposed to be….Maybe God used your issues to give you exactly what you wanted.’” To think, I had never read Susan May Warren prior to a couple years ago. As soon as I finished Sunrise, I wanted the next novel on my Kindle, as soon as possible. Typically, I’m fine with waiting for sequels, which may be surprising. Not with Warren’s books. I had high hopes for Sunburst . And from the moment I met Noemi, Susan May Warren had me—hook, line, and sinker. Noemi is a confident, stubborn, independent spitfire of a woman when she first meets Ranger Kingston. They hit it off, but fate rips them apart. It was fine, Noemi thought. I can’t get married, thought Ranger. The truth hurts. But neither accepted it, their memories of each other always whispering in their metaphorical ears. Then terrorists slam them together once more, and whispers turn to screams. Metaphorical ears change to literal. They are stuck in Nigeria, with their best means of protection being to pose as husband and wife. Which, though they both deny, becomes all too real for each of them. Ranger and Noemi want the wedding to be real, in every aspect of the word. But Ranger has his duties, and Noemi thinks she’s cursed. Everyone around her gets hurt, or worse, dies. She can’t let that happen to Ranger, so Noemi wants to disappear. She does not want anyone’s life ruined because of her. Both Ranger and Noemi resist the tug between them…the only question is…will sense get smacked into them before it is too late? Gosh darn it, I loved Sunburst by Susan May Warren. I keep thinking she can’t get better, but she always does. Suspenseful, yet heartwarming and comical. Complex—Warren reveals a subplot that clearly connects the three books together—yet easy to read. Fulfilling, with a powerful message, in typical Susan May Warren fashion. That is what I adore most about this author: Warren drops Christian truth bombs into her novels in a way that explodes warmth, comfort, and yes, sometimes conviction. But the bombs aren’t surprises. She portrays the messages of God in a sincere manner, without falling into the preaching that some authors do. I admit, sometimes I’ll skip the sermons in novels. Often times, they add little to the story, and I feel like they’re just…dropped in, because the writer wanted to ensure the novel checked the “Christian” box. Not Susan May Warren. I wouldn’t dream of skipping a word, much less a single sentence. Sunburst by Susan May Warren is everything a Christian romance novel should ever be—wholesome, funny, exciting, and Christ-filled. *Note: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher (and NetGalley!) in exchange for my honest review. Then, I forgot there was the mystery woman who showed up at the Ranch at the end of book one. It was interesting getting to "not" really know her at all. hahaha The author just builds the suspense on that end as well. There is a LOT going on in this story! It was SUPER interesting to me how all of the dots started coming together towards the end. Of course it has me dying to get my hands on book three, but also dreading that the series will be over. hahaha I also love how characters from other stories I've enjoyed by the author (as well as ones I haven't read yet) make appearances in this one. There were quite a few of the back and forth of Noemi and Ranger of "misunderstandings" of their relationship. You'll see what I mean once you read the story. From there, the book is constant action--with back and forth relationship between Noemi and Ranger. I enjoyed Sunburst as a whole. It is full of action that kept me turning pages. There are rich descriptions of the area, the culture and the foods in Nigeria that I enjoyed. I also liked the romantic wedding that took place in Nigeria--even though it was just part of "the operation." At the same time, I did get a bit frustrated with the characters as they kept going back and forth with communication struggles and fears that kept holding them back from each other and deciding if they wanted to make their Nigerian wedding permanent. I did like the ending though--and of course, I look forward to the next book as there are some cliffhangers as Sunburst ends. As a Christian, I really liked the talk that Ranger's dad had with him near the end. I also liked how God was working in both Noemi and Ranger's life to help them heal in their struggles. He was also working in the Kingston family as there is healing and reconciliation in some relationships. I am now anxiously awaiting Sundown as Warren not only leaves us with cliffhangers but also gives us a preview of that book at the end of this one. Your heart will be pounding as you read about hostage situations, flying bullets, Boko Haram infiltrations, and the SEAL rescue attempts. I loved this five-star reading experience because Warren took me deep inside the world of Navy SEALS and to a country I’ve never visited. Warren’s Christian character development is second to none! She crafts her characters so that they continually push themselves towards introspection and then effortlessly allows us to see how they deal with inner struggles brought about by their external situations. The concept of being shaped and molded by God in the heat of the battle is appealing to me. That’s real life! Ranger’s exploration of God’s abandonment and his lack of trust felt so authentic. Warren reminds readers of the SEAL phrase “The only easy day was yesterday,’ and that if we are prepared and ready to face our battles head-on, we can, with God’s help, turn every battle into a victory. I needed to read that today. Warren’s ability to surprise me with her character’s actions never fails. Just when I’m convinced what direction the story is going to take next, her characters stubbornly stomp off in the opposite direction! I love following them and seeing how they work out their redemption, trust and reliance on faith for themselves. My favourite line, and one I’ll not forget, is “every time my world gets darker, I see God more.” As I stood on the deck tonight sailing towards Copper Mountain, I looked up at the clear sky, thought of Ranger and was reminded of this revelation. The Kingston boys are dreamy, but Noemi is my new favourite character. I loved the tension and the vulnerability and how she and Kingston played off each other. I see a lot of myself in Noemi! I enjoyed the references to her culture and am now dying to try jollof rice, owho soup, akara, chin chin, and fufu. Most of all, I loved the authentic touches of pidgin English. I’ve kept one for my own use: “Heaven almighty, Gon don butta my bread!” Warren writes to evoke empathy and challenges us to overcome fear. Her transitions to different points of view and different plot lines kept me on my toes. As we continue our sail towards Copper Mountain on our Alaskan cruise, I’m watching out for Roy. If I see him, I’ll be sure to run in the opposite direction! I was gifted this advance copy by the author and publishers and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Noemi and Ranger supported each other through the tough things they faced despite feeling that the other just viewed them as a friend. She helped Ranger dream of a different future than he'd planned on but could no longer have. Since they're on the run from terrorists, the suspense stayed high throughout the story. Both had skills needed to survive and relied on each other. The characters were complex, realistic people, and I cared about what happened to them. Noemi learned that God did care about her and both learned to trust God's love even when life wasn't turning out the way they would have liked. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel. I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

Susan May Warren's new book treats readers to quite an adventure, as they're transported to a terrorist camp in Nigeria and then back to Sky King Ranch in beautiful Alaska. A pretend marriage becomes necessary for survival but the special physical chemistry and deep emotional bond between Ranger and Noemi make it very real in appearance. Warren has a unique talent for creating characters to cheer for, romance that leaves us yearning for more, and adventures that keep us on the edge of our seats! She also ministers to readers spiritually with the relevant faith messages that she weaves into all of her stories. I thoroughly enjoyed Sunburst and I'm excited to read book 3 of the Sky King Ranch series. I received a review copy from the author and from Revell via Interviews and Reviews. These are my honest thoughts.

I can always count on this author to take me for quite a ride when I read one of her adventure-suspense books! I loved how their personalities complemented each other in the best ways. There is also an inspirational thread as both Ranger and Noemi find and strengthen their faith in God and each other. While they were on the run, we have another continuing story in Alaska with the woman rescued from the blizzard and her ties to the Russians. By the end of the book I could start to make out some of the puzzle pieces to the bigger picture and I can't wait for the next book to see how they fit together and especially Colt and Tae's romance! I was rooting for them all the way! The action was perfectly paced and unexpected at times (which I always love!), and there was a scene at the end that, well let’s just say I would definitely trust having these brothers protect my back! Sunburst is book 2 of the Sky King Ranch trilogy. While I think it would be more fulfilling to read Sunrise first because of the family dynamics, I do think you could easily read this one as a standalone. I cannot wait for the final story, Sunset, which will be about Colt. Ms. Warren has really peaked my interest with this story! I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own. The faith thread is light.

Bachelor Ranger Kingston is about to be released from the military, but his last assignment is to rescue three people, including his brother, who are hostages in Nigeria. Imagine his surprise when another is Noemi Sutton a young woman he'd met on a leave and for whom he had feelings. Will they get out alive, will Noemi rekindle those feelings, and what will Ranger do when he leaves the military? The descriptions of Nigeria were so well done that it was obvious Warren had done a lot of research. With plenty of suspense, a touch of humor and a breath of romance, Warren made the second of the Kingston triplet brothers come to life. He was definitely another swoonworthy hero; yet he and Noemi also found their entire adventure brought them a stronger faith. Looking forward to reading about Colt the last of the Kingston triplets and his adventure.

This was another great suspense by Susan May Warren, action packed with a lot of thrilling scenes and twists. The mystery/suspense thread continues from book one, so I would recommend reading the series in order, just to get the full back story of what happened and why the relationship between the three brothers are strained. What I always love about this author's books is the way she waves the spiritual thread within the story, which never makes it sound preachy but just fit. I found the same again with this book. You've always spent your life looking forward, the destination in mind. But faith is stepping forward without knowing the destination. Highly recommended to fans of Susan May Warren and romantic suspense. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*

You know those books you finish and immediately want to reread? Sunburst was this for me. Book two in the Sky King Ranch series is bursting with action and adventure, banter, mystery, culture and heart. In signature Susie May style, Sunburst has left me with SO MANY QUESTIONS and dying for book three.

I loved the first book in this series, SUNRISE, so much. So so much. It was set in Alaska, and Alaska was very much one of the main characters of the book, which is a testament to the author’s descriptive powers. So I was very excited to get this book. This one is initially set in Nigeria. Ranger and his brother, Dodge, are there running reconnaissance on a terrorist camp, where the third brother, Colt, is being held, along with several other prisoners, after having been kidnapped. One of the women prisoners makes a break for it, unknowingly giving Ranger and his team the opportunity to swoop in and effect a rescue. Ranger is shocked when he realizes that woman is Noemi, who he knew several years ago. As with Alaska, the author provides a wonderfully evocative depiction of Nigeria, from the jungles, to the food, to a traditional Nigerian wedding. Though it’s a wonder Ranger could function day to day what with the multitude of injuries he sustains along the way. But I loved him as much as I had loved Dodge in the first book, as much as I know I will love Colt when his book comes out. And Noemi was a fiercely fascinating woman, strong and independent. The narrative was a bit more...bouncy, for lack of a better word, than I remember from the first book, especially when the point of view was Noemi’s. Which was good, it was in keeping with Noemi’s character. There were also many, many, many instances of both Noemi and Ranger recalling past conversations or comments, with those lines interspersed in italics, which got tiring, especially the lines that were constantly repeated. For instance, in the first chapter, which describes Ranger and Noemi’s first meeting and swift relationship, they agree to meet somewhere, and Ranger says “I will find you”. That line was brought back time and time again, and yes, it has significance later, but it, along with all the other instances, got tiring. Regardless, while I think I liked SUNRISE a little better, because I already had a thing for Alaska before I read it, I loved this book. I can’t wait for SUNDOWN, the third book, and I have got to hunt down more of this author’s work. *I received a free copy of this book from the author and have voluntarily reviewed it*

Determined to save everyone, Ranger along with Noemi navigate rough terrain to rescue the girl and make their escape. My thoughts: I have mixed feelings about this story globe-trotting romance where the only solution to make a final escape from Nigeria is to pose as husband and wife. All through the story we see two love birds refusing to acknowledge their deep love for each one that has been germinating since the first day they met years ago while on a holiday trip in Key West. They pussyfoot around and pussyfoot around all the time. I just wanted to shake both of them to go on with it. The story moves along in flashbacks or memories then suddenly change to the present. This switch back on forth did not always register well and I seemed thrown out of kilter and needed to reread some times. I did not fully enjoy this story although we do have a lot of action to keep us interested especially when the trio were dodging bullets trying not to fall back in the hands of their pursuers. Finally homestead, Ranger and Noemi still couldn’t evade who ever were after them and the chase continued....oh boy. Yes, like the previous novel it ends on a cliff hanger....what is next....The novel also includes a lot of Christian values and beliefs and it may not gel with everyone but again ignore this if you do not approve. On a high note, the Nigerian culture is well said and done. The traditional wedding in Nigeria is lively and colourfully and is told with all the traditions and some pidgin to place us in middle of the excitement. I loved this part. I received this book through the Early Reviewers Program in exchange for an honest review.

While Sunburst COULD be read as a standalone novel, there is an overall plot arc and characters featured in book one that continue to play a role throughout the series, so it is recommended to read Sunrise first to guarantee maximum enjoyment of the series. Sunburst features an international setting for the majority of the storyline, this time focusing on a terrorist camp and other areas throughout Nigeria, and the return to Sky King Ranch in Alaska. As Susan May Warren explains in her author note, Nigeria has a very special connection to her and her family. Although marriage of convenience storylines are not ones that I intentionally seek out, Susan May Warren creates a convincing situation in which this scenario is appropriate in a contemporary setting. If Susan May Warren writes it, I know it will be a must-read for me. Sunburst ends with a cliffhanger that has readers eagerly waiting until November 2022 for Colt Kingston to have his own story. “If anyone could help her save the world, it was Colt Kingston.” Sunburst is highly recommended for readers of action filled contemporary romance and romantic suspense. I especially loved Noemi’s family in Nigeria, particularly her Aunt Precious and Uncle Efe who loved her so much and wanted to take care of her. The celebration that they organized for her was sheer perfection to read and an education about customs in Nigeria. Ranger’s family in Alaska is a daring one, with a sky rescue service and the willingness to go wherever they were needed. So much was happening in this book at all times that I almost got whiplash from reading it! This was a fun, entertaining and edge-of-your-seat read that I had difficulty putting down. Each time I returned to it, I was so happy to see that the characters were all still alive because it was that realistic. Sunburst by Susan May Warren is the second book in the Sky King Ranch series, and if you have not met the Kingston brothers yet…what are you waiting for? It was so peaceful, beautiful, and full of life and color. An oasis in a story of struggle and survival. Overall, I’m in love with this book (and the series!). I can’t tell you how many times my husband kept asking, “What’s so good about that book? I can tell you’re in deep.” All the things, people! All the things! Suspense. Romance. Warriors. Family. I just have to shout out that two of my favorite things about the second book in the Sky King Ranch series were the appearance of some old friends of Global Search And Rescue fame and the way that book two seems to be building onto the over-arching mystery that was started in book one. Sunrise was riveting. Sunburst was intense. I love the Kingston family, triplets Dodge, Ranger and Colt and Dad Barry, too. These type A macho men are the epitome of heroes as a pilot, Delta force operator and Navy Seal. Their training, endurance and physical abilities are inconceivable, but Warren makes every situation they handle realistic and credible. Noemi Sutton is her own brand of heroine and I loved her unique personality and relentless loyalty. Ranger and Noemi's attraction and physical chemistry, in the midst of danger while running for their lives, makes it all even more exciting. The adrenalin rush Sunburst gives had me on the edge of my seat! Sunburst is a gripping suspense, but it took me by surprise with the humor and witty banter woven into it. The Nigerian wedding Ranger and Noemi allow her family to give them so as not to blow their cover has some of the funniest lines and situations of any I've read from Warren. I want to read those scenes again just for the humor and laugh out load moments. Not only is Warren the best when it comes to suspenseful nature adventures, she's exceptional at tying in the inspirational content. One of my favorite quotes: "'Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.' That's direction and protection. You don't need to know where you're going, just the one who is with you. And there is no one better to have on your side than the almighty God. He has a path, and it's good." I highly recommend this absorbing blockbuster and can hardly wait to read Colt's story in Sundown, coming in November. I appreciate Revell Publishing making a copy of Sunburst available for review.
