This anthology collects eight novellas and one short story, spanning styles, time periods, and genres, each of which features some form of vampire romance. “Quicksilver: A Hunter’s Mission”, April A. Luna: When Quicksilver finds herself urgently in need of blood, she is forced to hunt a human rather than rely on stored blood; unfortunately, Clive Hunter of the League of Immortal Hunters is currently keeping her under surveillance; but moments after Clive intervenes they are attacked by mutual enemies forcing them to flee together. The story opens with slight introspection but swiftly ramps up into an ongoing fight-chase between multiple groups; although unarguably fast and dangerous for the characters, there is little space for context which is likely to leave some readers wondering where druids fit into the fight between vampires, gargoyles, and hunters. As can be seen from a vampire hunter called Hunter, while Luna’s plot is violent her style is definetly not gritty. This quirkiness also appears in the extravagence of Quicksilver’s narrative voice, which—depending on reader preference—might either evoke age or pretention. “At First Sight, I Just Might”, Ingrid Atwood: Pulled away from the warmth of hearth and marriage by war, Guiles stalks and is stalked by enemy soldiers through the forests; however, both sides have in turn attracted the attention of Cygna who seeks both blood and companionship. The setting is hard to place: Guiles’ narrative opens in a France that seems to sit somewhere in the 1100–1300’s, yet Cygna’s opens with her in a supernatural bar with a feel of the mid-Twentieth Century onward; the intersection of the two is therefore likely to jar with some readers. Atwood’s prose inclines more to the factual than the emotive, featuring a high level of descriptions in the form of “Character was strong so they could lift the weight easily”; this might summon a sense of reading a witness statement rather than an immersive tale in some. Where Atwood is more emotive, if still somewhat factual, is in the detailed extended description of sex that places this story deep in the erotic field. “Must Love Humans”, Amanda Aggie: Having lost his one true love many years ago and believing vampires only mate once, Leo is shocked when Harper merely passing him in a bar unleashes the same passions. Unfortunately, as a human she couldn’t feel a supernatural connection if one existed and all she seems interested in is hustling people at pool; so, he bets a roll of cash against a date. Aggie’s characterisation is solid, creating two protagonists who are competent and assured, but also flawed in ways that both make them a good match and hinder them achieving it. This is given space to play out by a plot about dating as a vampire rather than the hidden war common to paranormal romances. “Immortally Yours”, Lenore Danvers: When a mysterious tugging of his senses draws Roman to Aurelie bound in the forest, he not only rescues her but visits her at work whenever possible; however, while she was greatful to be saved, she doesn’t feel the same uncomplicated interest in him as a man or a vampire. Danvers intertwines Roman’s efforts to woo Aurelie with an investigation into her kidnapping, making this a romance with a thriller subplot rather than the more usual opposite. The use of flashbacks complicates the reader’s perception of events in a way that will either add to the joy of discovery or create a confusion that weakens immersion. “Hello Brother”, Jennifer M. Miller: Although vampire and werewolf, Damion and Vance are friends; so when Damion recieves a prophecy that concerns a nearby pack, Vance uses his connections to get a meeting. However, not all werewolves are so open to friendship with vampires, especially when Damion attempts to romance one of the pack. Miller’s intertwining plots of a girl guarded by one supernatural group and sought by another for her alleged importance, and an interspecies romance opposed by prejudiced family members is filled with interesting moments; however, it has the scope of a novel and so trimming it down to a shorter form packs them tight in a way that some readers might find rushed or busy. “Scarlet Fang”, Raja Savage: Forced to marry against her will, Princess Astrid Petrova flees the ceremony and reinvents herself as Scarlet Fang, a famed chef. Unfortunately, she can’t cook and the man her best friend hires to teach her turns out to be the first person her new identity had an argument with. Savage’s protagonist is supposedly a socialite-turned-resistance-leader; however, apart from fleeing her wedding, any resistance she has done occurs before the story starts and is not described except as another cool thing in her cavalcade of Instagramable moments and looks. Combined with her immense sense of entitlement, this causes her to seem bitchy enough that many readers might not care enough whether she has depths to read on. “October in Elmdale”, Jordan Elizabeth: Although Meredith enjoys her job as a teacher, she feels she is only average at it—and at life in general. Which makes the sudden interest of Chadwick Stafford, newly returned brother of one of Elmdale’s leading figures, all the more suprising. A surprise that turns to fear when she discovers that not only might his interest not be romantic, he might not even be human. Elizabeth crafts a plausible and nuanced image of an ordinary young woman living in an ordinary small US town, then slips in hints of a supernatural presence that is hiding itself carefully among the populace. Thus, while the core of this tale is a classic paranormal romance trope, Elizabeth gives it the fresh spin of romance making ordinary people and their lives special to another rather than them being objectively more special than any other. “Once Bitten”, Kathleen Ryder: As children, Amy and Josh were inseparable; until her father’s new job suddenly dragged her to another part of Australia. So, when she needs somewhere to hide out from a violent man, she flees to his family’s ranch, hoping he won’t turn her away. Unfortunately, Josh has a bloodthirsty secret of his own that explains why he didn’t try to keep in touch. Ryder opens with a slow reveal of current and past events from both protagonist’s perspectives, creating both sympathetic characters who the reader is likely to root for and a sense of tension. However, the gap between the revelation of their secrets to the reader and the final showdown is much shorter, creating a sense of jumping pace that could leave some readers feeling a sudden drop. “Vampire Occupation”, Kat Parrish: Two decades after vampires seized control of the United States of America, society has returned to a sort of stability but every young person is part of a lottery to choose those who will serve vampires, as workers or food. Sarai thought she’d been lucky until a very rich and very desperate man noticed her resemblance to his daughter. Rather than the classic supernatural vampire, Parrish’s vampires are the result of a medical accident; sensibly, she neither has them displaying truly unfeasible powers nor attempts to explain the cause in detail, creating a balance between them being too implausible to be scientific and too mundane to take over a nation without opening them to a reader niggling over details. While the spine is a classic YA post-apocalyptic plot, Sarai is similarly balanced between plausibility and uniqueness, avoiding the sense of a superbeing-who-doesn’t-realise-it that occurs in some YA speculative fiction. Although the vampire as romantic protagonist is only a subset of the vampire genre, the contributors each present a distinct perspective on vampirism that avoids over-repetition. As with any broader collection, the range of stories both makes it more likely a reader will find something they especially like and decreases the chances they will love everything. As befits stories centred on a myth of feeding on humans, there is a physicality to the intimacy in many of the stories that is if not always graphic then certainly racy. Several contributors embrace the ways in which supernatural powers can take romance tropes beyond their usual limits; thus there are protagonists who grab or kiss people because they “know” the other person likes them, or compel the target of their affections to accompany them. Whether these instances read as romance or sexual assault will depend on an individual reader’s opinion on whether the fact that the protagonists are meant for each other obviates the need for informed enthusiastic consent. And some of these pairings are literally made for each other, being the fated perfect mates of paranormal stereotype; fortunately, it is the bare fact and not the details of execution that are stereotypical. Overall, I found this anthology variable. I recommend it to readers seeking mostly classic paranormal romance with a few forays into adjacent areas. I received a free copy from a contributor with a request for a fair review.

Harper became one of my favorite characters from the love of pool to the love of books and reading, is why I am so obsessed with her! Harper reminds me of myself in for many ways and I can’t wait to see where her character goes next. The dynamic between Leo and Harper is extremely raw and real. The reader can really feel and know what they are both thinking by the way Aggie switches the perspective! I love that way of knowing what they are both thinking and what they are both freaking out about. Knowing what they both are thinking make the dynamic more really and Aggie does a good job at making them as real as possible! I would give this amazing book 5/5 and I truly want more as soon as she can! I love the idea and the thought of it being a sexier twilight! My friend saw the cover and immediately got excited because of the twilight looking cover! I would suggest this to vampire lovers and just fantasy readers in general! It’s short, sweet and quick read that will leave you wanting more!

Must Love Humans surprised me at how adorably human vampires can be. I fell hard for Leo, the old vampire who looks 26 and acts like a modern Mr. Darcy (just missing the dryness and the hand flex... IYKYK right). The novella started with Leo starting off a little rough, moping and still in a mild spiral after losing his mate 80 years prior. While he swore he could never move on, he is blessed with a second chance mate. She is a bit of an enigma, not learning much about her other than her feistiness, childhood with a singing mom, and being a librarian. Every little detail from their first meeting to getting ready for their date, to the date itself is adorably fun. I'd consider this novella to be a paranormal romantic comedy, slow burn with an intense finale. It's like giggling while playing with matches and then the flame ignites. I look forward to reading more of Amanda's books in the future. *I was given an advanced reader copy in return for an honest review. The author did not purchase my review or persuade me in any way. They were a sweet couple and I loved getting to see Leo find a second chance at love. The author gave us a story that makes you believe in second chances, even for a vampire.

For Must above Humans I wasn't sure I would like this at first because I am not much of a romance/spice fan. However mixed in with fantasy and I have found another genre I like. The characters are amazingly written that you feel a part of the story. The photo booth scene OMG I will never look at one ever again. Given it a 4 star because too short I want more and like maybe a bit more back story very much thrust (no pun intended) into it but I am being picky. I was able to read one of the short stories in this book ‘Scarlet Fang’ and can’t wait to read some more. It was an interesting and mysterious story with vampire royalty and other mysterious paranormals. It left me wanting to know more all about the Transylvanian rebellion. It also hooks you with the spicy scenes that leave you wanting more.

While I must admit that horny vampires don’t do a lot for me, but many of these stories were explicit and the erotic portions were tastefully done. But be aware that some of these stories bordered on sizzling. Several of the stories featured are prequels, leading into the rest of the series, rather than complete stand-alone stories.... But… I loved the unique, (at least to me), story concept for “Vampire Occupation”, by Kat Parrish. Although it ends with “to be continued…”, it left me intrigued enough that I’d like to read more. Apparently the tactic works, annoying or not.... I was drawn into Jordan Elizabeth's story immediately by her skillfully placed hook, and her full story arc kept me riveted to the end, where love blooms around a broken curse. Also worth mention in this story collection is “Must Love Humans”, by Amada Aggie, a complete story where love is kindled over a bet on a game of billiards; “Immortally Yours”, by Lenore Danvers, a complete story in which the vampire plays the part of knight rescuing a damsel who doesn’t yet know she is in distress, and “Once Bitten”, by Kathleen Ryder, a complete story where lost love is reclaimed in spite of a dark secret. For must love humans specifically. Did receive an advanced copy free. This is a novella, so I find it hard to write too terribly much because we got such a short glimpse at Harper and Leo’s story. I think there was enough to warrant a second look and to be able to expand into a full novel, which I believe is anticipated. The writing was well done, and the characters had development to add some life and backstory. The story began from Leo’s point of view, but I’m hoping perhaps we lead in from Harper in a longer telling because I feel she had the more interesting background and more room to make her even more intriguing. The spice level was low for me personally, but that’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable. That’s just from my background and reading darker grittier stories as a rule. Leo is a cinnamon roll and is declared from the beginning as such but he wasn’t too saccharine to be unenjoyable. Overall a good start and wetting of the tongue and I hope to see more.

This is one for one of the shorts in the First Bite Anthology. This particular short is called Once Bitten and follows Amy and Josh. Once childhood friends that were separated, Amy comes back to seek Josh's help. Amy is unaware that Josh is a vampire and that she is his Fated mate. This story started off quite well in my opinion. Until the first real dialog scenes between Josh and Amy at which point the book floundered to me. This review is only for Must Love Humans By: Amanda Aggie Part of the First Bite Anthology 5 Stars First let me start off by saying I really loved this story and it’s characters. They where so well written. This whole story was very well written. The author did an excellent job of telling a whole story in a novella setting. Because this novella is apart of an anthology the word count was limited but it did not leave you feeling unfinished just maybe feeling like you want more. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone needing a quick sweet read.

I couldn't put this story down once I started reading it. It was short and sweet, then a little bit hot. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys vampire books who find their mate. Harper was just trying to have fun and trying to pay down student loans. She was extremely good at this until she met Leo. Yes this book is short but you won't be disappointed.

Reviewing for Must Love Humans This book was adorably spicy!!! Gave you another look at life can throw you a second chance at love and you just needing to take it! I adore Harper she looks nice and innocent but is kick ass and has THE BEST inner monologue that you almost want her to be your inner voice, then the man himself Leo, so adorable you cant just help to fall for him. To be honest I don't think that I will be able to look at a fair ground or a photo booth the same way again *wink wink*. Reviewing for Must Love Humans This book was adorably spicy!!! This review is not for the whole book. Must Love Humans by Amanda Aggie Leo is a sweet and romantic vampire. He has a second chance mate. *gasp* Harper is sassy and totally kick ass. She happens to be a human, but that doesn't stop her from going into a supernatural bar. Together they are an enormous ball of tension bouncing through these pages. A low slow fire with the potential to build into a spicy fiery passion. Their story will leave you wanting more, and you will never look at a photo booth th This review is not for the whole book. I give "Must Love Humans" a 2.5 - 3 out of 5 on the spicy scale and a 5 out of 5 on the must read scale.

This review is for Must Love Humans by Amanda Aggie specifically. This little nugget was pure gold. It was such a fun and refreshing quick read. The characters are super likable. Leo is an absolutely adorable vampire. Now on my top favorite list 🥰. She is snarky, fun, yet sweet. I loved this book as a whole but mostly because it was hilarious. Thumbs up to any author who can hook you on the story and make you really laugh as well. Must Love Humans by Amanda Aggie is a short but steamy read. Very sexy and enticing. I could not put it down from the moment I first opened it up. I enjoyed this read because although it is only a novella the storytelling is exquisite. I wish it had been longer honestly because I would love nothing more than to revel in the story and enjoy it at a much slower pace. All in all, I would recommend this novella to anyone who enjoyed the whole twilight saga but really wanted more spice to go with it. Must Love Humans by Amanda Aggie is a short but steamy read. I haven't read all the stories yet but it's looking so good. I love anthologies, as I get to discover so many new to me authors. Just a quick glimpse but enough to send me looking for me. I read Jordan Elizabeth's vampire story as I'm such a fan of her work. The mysterious, very pale woman that never seems to age. A curse that needs to be broken...or does it? She's entranced by this guy and catches a glimpse of teeth. So much going on in this short story I want more. I can't wait to discover the I haven't read all the stories yet but it's looking so good. This review is for the story, ‘Must Love Humans,’ by Amanda Aggie. Must Love Humans is a quick read that will make you crave more! The chemistry between Leo & Harper is magnetic. Harper isn’t afraid to go after what she wants and it’s Leo. And, I find Leo to be unlike any other vampire I’ve read about before. He’s most definitely a gentleman where it matters and a beast when he needs to be. Great, sultry read!
